Hi all. New here. Also computer novice when it comes to technical stuff. I've got a T200 (CPU 3775@1.46Ghz, OS 32 bit(x64 based processor), 2Gb Ram, 50Gb internal HDD) running on Windows 10. I would like to install a SSD into the slot under the keyboard. I've enquired with ASUS on what they recommend and the recommendation was not to go bigger than 256Gb and the computer would run smoothly. I would like to install a 500Gb or 1Tb SSD. Would any of these sizes create running problems? What would you guys recommend brand wise and size wise? I'm not doing anything fancy with the computer other than the normal day to day stuff ie email, surfing, bit of games, etc. This question has probably already been answered but as I said, I'm not the most technically orientated computer wizard. I have read this thread but would like a bit of info in simpler terms. Thank you for any help/input.

    Welcome to the forum Peter

There are several recommendations for makes and models of drives that folks have successfully installed in this thread. I think you can safely ignore the Asus advice of 256gb - that makes no sense at all. Pick the correct physical size drive - that is the most important thing.

So you will want a 2.5 inch 7mm SSD
Buy the best value for money storage size you like. Someone has posted they have had success with a Crucial M550 1tb. Someone else, a Crucial MX 100 512Gb SSD.

    All the best

Thank you for the advice janner43. I was thinking along those lines.
Here is a copy of the email Asus sent, for interest sakes.
    Dear Peter,

Thank you for contacting ASUS Service Care.
My name is Alex and it's my pleasure to help you with your problem.

ASUS haven't tested the compatibility of this model with SSD drive. However, on the Transformer forums, many customers have succeeded insert and use a SSD 2.5" 7mm hard drive. You can refer to this topic for further information Standard 2.5" ssd or hdd WILL fit in the T200TA Dock, here's how (Video)

The SSD will boost the processing speed and definitely faster than the noremal HDD and will not affect the battery life. I would like to suggest you use the 256GB SSD of brands such as Crucial, Hitachi, Seagate, etc. for the best performance.

If you have any further questions, comments, or concerns please do not hesitate to let
us know. We will be more than happy to assist you.
    Thanks!
    Wish you a nice day!

    Thanks Peter.

So Asus didn't say that they don't recommend a drive over 256gb which is what you suggested in your post - I'm very glad about that.

The only reason I can come up with for the 256 GB limit would be related to read performance. Something with relatively weak processing power like the t200 will have a more difficult time parsing through a larger drive than a smaller one. The larger the drive the more CPU cycles get used managing it and less are available for regular tasks.

This is a similar effect to putting a very high capacity card in the SD slot. Asus recommends a maximum of 64 GB for best perfomance. This often confuses people because anything that takes 64GB theoretically can take cards up to 2 Terabytes! Again, the larger the drive the harder the CPU needs to work to maintain it.

Guess you'll just have to try a larger size and report back!
