Boot, sign in, and screen randomly dies

Since last night, my T100TA seems to be struggling. I can turn it on, and sign in, but within about 5 minutes you hear a pop in the bottom left of the tablet. The screen goes black (no backlight) and i cant do anything. If i hold the power button i get 5 quickly blinking LEDs, but nothing happens unless i let it sit for a little bit, and then the process starts again. On the last boot i checked the event viewer, and I didnt find anything that stood out as being a significant issue so im not sure what to do. Ive had this device for over 3 years (and i think its a refurb) so i cant exactly just send it in.

Sounds like something is causing the back light to fail.
To verify the next time it happens instead of rebooting shine a flash light on the screen if you can see images then the screen is good and the it is a back light problem.
You only options then are to try repair yourself, send it to ASUS, or find a local repair shop.
Based on the age I would just recycle the unit and buy something new.

Hi mikLast, allow us to apologize for the inconvenience that this has caused. Please try the following steps below:

    1. Turn off the computer.

    2. Remove the computer from any port replicator or docking station.

    3. Disconnect all external connected peripheral devices such as USB storage devices, external displays, and printers.

    4. Unplug the AC adapter from the computer.

    5. Press and hold down the Power button for about 45 seconds to drain any residual electrical charge from the capacitors that protect the memory.

    6. Plug the AC adapter back into the notebook computer, but do not connect any of the peripheral devices.

    7. Press the Power button to turn on the computer.

    8. If a startup menu opens, use the arrow keys to select Start Windows Normally , and then press the Enter key.

If i leave it for a day charging, it works just fine for a while before stopping again. Next time it happens (cause its happened once again since posting) ill follow both sets of advice and see what happens.
