    T100T won't detect my keyboard or any other

    So my problem wit hthe T100T starts with frequent keyboard disconnections. The posts on the web mislead me to believe it is a keyboard problem. After complete disconnection now (it doesn't detect any iput from the keyboard at all, no sound), I tried a friend's keyboard who has the same identical model. The surprise is, it can't detect the other keyboard either!

    How serious is the problem? My guess it's the port in the tablet that went bad, not the actual keyboard!

    Also sorry to highjack my own thread, but my left speaker all of a sudden started to make noise and crackling. Basically going bad too. It's like the entire device is crumbling! Please give me your input.

    You've diagnosed it yourself. The connection port on the tablet is clearly faulty. Asus speakers, like most tablet PCs, aren't known for being 'robust'.

    Not worth spending money on IMO.

    And the left speaker completely died too! From an electronics point of view, what is this gradual slow death of components a symptom of? And why do you say not worth spending money? Is it going to cost that much?

    A T100TA in the UK brand new can be bought for 130 ish - how much do you think a new motherboard will cost?
    Your device was always one that was a budget machine - they can't be designed for a price and with clever functionality & be robust and have a high build quality...

    Doesn't make it a bad machine, just one that may not last... in most cases.

    And its only my opinion. Your money, your choice.

    Whoa a motherboard :0 couldn't it be a small electric component that needs replacement?

    Don't think so. All these devices have everything on the main board. It's called miniaturisation...

    * repeated minor mechanical damage - is the device in a rucksack as you walk around ? The connectors on all devices are notorious. A tight micro-HDMI or tiny USB connector gets wriggled and pushed. These are usually directly bonded to the main board.
    * slow oxidation
    * heating/cooling - gives you expansion and contraction. If the heating/cooling is very local, one component or part of the motherboard expands faster than its neighbours which gives you local mechanical stress.

    I decided I'm going to fix it. Where can I do that in Montreal, and how much do you estimate the costs?
