    No Disk Space 32GB

    Hey Folks,

I'm a pretty novice user and am looking for some help. I've looked for similar threads and can't seem to find any assistance, I'm curious to see if anyone has any thoughts.

I recently purchased an Asus T100 with 32GB with a 500GB HD in the keyboard. I'm having a problem where no apps are opening, which I've been trying to troubleshoot. It has been suggested that I do a system refresh. I've tried to do such, but am running into a more basic problem - no disk space! It is saying it needs 11+GB free to do a refresh. I can't for the life of me figure out what to remove from the machine to free up space.

My C: drive shows that it has 1.45 GB of free space.
I've deleted almost all of my apps.
I've looked at "Programs and Features" (right clicking on the start menu) and have deleted almost everything I can see (I had iTunes on the machine, realized it was a bad idea and deleted it, etc.).
The machine is basically just as it came, plus I put the Microsoft Office package on it.
I have some photos, etc. saved on the machine, but I looked up how to have them all directed to the D: drive instead of saving them to the C: drive.

Is there a way to free up space? Am I a dummy that's just missing something? Thanks for any help!

On a 32GB device, after deleting everything except Windows, you should have about 20GB free. Something's not right? Are you deleting programs using Control Panel> Programs, then select a program then uninstall? Have you installed a lot of apps from the store?

    Smile Welcome

    Welcome to the forum

First, when you uninstalled all that software did you then empty the Recycle Bin? If not, try that

Next, you might have Restore Points taking up room, you won't need them if you are going to do a Refresh. To delete them go to:
    Control Panel
    Recovery
    Configure System Restore
    Configure
Delete (Delete all restore points for this drive)

    Download CCleaner (free)
    CCleaner - Builds
I use the Portable version (most of my software is Portable) and it works well, it has no Toolbar options etc
If you want an installer version then choose Slim it has no Toolbar options etc
    Launch CCleaner
Look at the default settings to see if there is anything you don't want to happen (it should be ok)
Click Analyze You should see a lot of space will be cleared
    Click Run CCleaner

If you still have have very little space left download TreeSize (free)
TreeSize Free - Quickly Scan Directory Sizes and Find Space Hogs
Again, I use the ZIP (portable) version but it's up to you.
    Launch TreeSize
Click on Scan in the menu
    Select OS (C: )
You will be able to see what is taking up space on your drive

    Good luck

Using the built-in disk cleaner tool, I was able to recover 8 GB of space.

Same situation as you and getting a little leery of having the 32 gb model. I still have about 7 gb free but see it dwindling even with installing everything to SD card. What did you find that was taking up your disk space? Windows/office updates? Log files?

I am using a 32 GB T100 running Windows 8.1 Update and I have a difficult time keeping free space above 1 GB on the SSD.

The device includes a 500 GB HDD which I install almost all application.

Currently my C:\windows\ directory is using 14.1 GB (see below for screenshot of Windows folder usage). I haven't done much more than update, install office and install applications.

It is a problem. You might want to take a look at this for your installation files (4 gb):
    https://www.raymond.cc/blog/safely-d...taller-folder/

Most people have large SVI files like pagefil.sys and hyberfil.sys. I've tried to get rid of hyberfil.sys but I get an error message about admin rights. I've tried to limit the paging file but then I get memory issues. I am always scared of 600 mb Windows/Office Updates and always use the disc cleaner function in Windows to remove any update file remnants. I clear out my browser history regularly. I only have installed Office 2013 (SD card), a firewall/av program, and a 3-4 Store apps. I typically am running 3-5 gb free.

I hear that Windows 10 will allow for more flexible Windows component installations so I hope that it will have a smaller footprint. Edit: I guess the footprint reduction will be more from compression.

You can also look at this WIM method to compress the OS:
reinstall using WIM method... anyone tried?

I have Steam, Glyph, Dropbox (About 250MB used here), Chrome, Game Maker Studio, and a few Windows 8 apps like Hyper/Facebook/Nook on my tablet storage, all my games are currently on the keyboard as I can't use them with just a touchscreen anyway.

I currently have 7.90GB left on it.

Doing Disk Cleanup helped, I had to do a refresh shortly after getting my tablet as something went wrong which caused the network to stop working and the windows.old directory in C: was taking over 2GB of space, so I told it to delete old Windows installations and it got rid of it.

    Hi,

Has anybody tried to free space on the C:WinSxS folder, as described on https://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/.../dn251565.aspx ?
