    T100 Speakers issue

So, just the other day my right speaker started to sound really quiet compared to my left one. It seems to have happened after a short drop (about an inch) on to a table even though the case was on.

When the volume is set to about 20 I can hear the right speaker flubbing out (it sounds awful)... Is there anything I can do? I would rather not send it off to Asus to have it fixed if I do not have to...

If you're unconcerned about your warranty, look around for disassembly instructions and videos to see if you can discover the problem.

I figured I should wait a while to see if the issue would resolve itself. It hasn't

Is it a chance that something got caught in the speaker (or something else simple)? If the speaker went bad after that drop, is it possible to buy a replacement and is it replaceable by someone without a soldering iron? I don't want to void my warranty if I do not have to...

I know that I will probably have to pay to have it fixed for sure, but it would be nice not to have to wait for 2 or 3 weeks for it to come back if it is actually broken.

Thank you for any assistance that may be provided in advance!

I believe the speaker/wires are terminated in a connector that plugs into the MOBO. Somewhere, there's a disassemble video that shows that. Look in the thread about replacing the display/touchscreen.

You could also go to Ifixit.com and search for T100 or search Youtube for a T100 teardown video.

So, the tablet was purchased in November of last year so it should be in warranty still. I have emailed asus about potential repairs and it looks like an RMA is the only option for retaining the warranty. How long does it normally take to send it in and receive it back again if I live in central California? I use it very heavily in class and would not like to be without it very long.

Here's the video that shows a full dis-assembly to replace the touchscreen... you'll not need to go nearly as far but at the 4:45 second point in the video is where you'll see where the speaker connector gets disconnected from the MOBO. This would be the connector to look at to make sure it didn't get partially dislodged with your drop. You'll also notice both speakers are mounted in plastic strips that may be of use to your troubleshooting.

If it were me, since I pretty much use earbuds exclusively with my T100, IMHO, I might chalk it up to bad luck and not go through RMA he11 to fix it.

If you chose to go this DIY route, take your time, be patient and study the video closely before starting any dis-assembly. And don't make the mistakes the video author made. If you remove any screws, don't pass almost every loose screw over the back of a wide open T100 and don't set the screws under a hand where they could all be swept away in one motion. IMHO.

Thank you for finding that video!

So, it looks like nothing needs to be unscrewed in order to check that connector, right? Even if the speakers need to be replaced, it doesn't seem too difficult to do once I am able to locate a replacement pair.
