Issues with Upgrade to Windows 8.1 Pro and Windows Media Center

So I upgraded my T100 from Windows 8.1 Core (or whatever comes with the unit) to 8.1 Pro; and from there added Windows Media Center in order to access my Cablecard based HD Homerun unit.

Now it seems like the shutdown system has gone haywire. I had already set my unit to shut down when the lid is closed as sleep management was buggy. Now the unit won't shut down when the lid is closed even though that is how the settings are set up. I find myself doing a hard reset quite often.

Anybody have any ideas what may be going on and how to fix it?

This may not be a helpful answer, but it could be an issue with 8.1 Pro. I'm running it on my desktop, and when I put my computer to sleep, it comes back on within two minutes. I didn't have this issue with standard Windows 8 Pro. I know the issue is with 8.1; because it comes back every time I reinstall it from a refresh back to 8.

So, there's something going on with 8.1 Pro that's screwing with the power settings of some computers, and this could be a result of that. I haven't found a solution to the issue yet. So, I know that's not the answer you're looking for. Aside from not using 8.1 Pro, your other option is to research it some on the Internet (unless someone else here has an answer). I just thought this could give you a place to start looking.

I have another laptop which was purchased with Windows 8. I upgraded it to the pro version + Windows Media Center + HD Homerun. It worked fine. Windows 8.1 came out and I upgraded to it. Immediately I had problems with the computer not sleeping when it should. After weeks of searching out a solution to the sleep problem on the internet and trying various things, I gave up
and restored my computer to its original state + the pro upgrade + WMC. Since then it has been working fine. So for me, 8.1 is on hold.

What about attempting an installation fresh from 8.1 pro instead of attempting an inplace upgrade? I haven't personally had any issues with any upgrades I have attempted from 7 to 8 and 8 to 8.1 on other machines, but I also have never upgraded from home to pro (I've always ever had ultimate/pro...well with the exception of my laptop, which was 7 home, but I just installed 8.1 pro straight without upgrading and my T100 is still running 8.1 home).
