Installing Windows apps via android phone hotspot

Ok, usually I don't post when I have issues. I just do the research, find the answer, fix it, and share the fix with others. This one has beaten me down. So, here's the issue:

I can install Windows Store apps over wifi all day any day. But if I connect to my phone via hotspot, usb tethered or wifi, I can not install apps. I get a bunch of different errors when attempting to install various apps. The main error being 0x8020002e. Is anyone else having this issue? If so has anyone figured out a fix?

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Check your Windows settings, you probably are blocking updates or data usage when connect through a secondary connection. That is the default Windows setting by the way.

No luck. I don't understand. I can download and install programs in desktop mode and stream movies over my mobile hotspot but I can't install an app.

Well, I contacted Microsoft but they wanted $100 to fix the problem. I am calling Asus next...but the Microsoft guy said he would send me an email that might help though. And by the look of things, I think I am the only one having this issue, which leads me to believe there is an easy fix I am overlooking. Regardless, once I find the fix I'll post it just in case.

Not much meat here but did you see this thread?

Also as noted, if you've not, do a google search on "error 0x8020002e"... there's much info listed there.

Thanks, I've tried most of the "fix" found through Google error search; however, I think my problem is more unique than that. Remember, my tablet works perfectly fine on regular WiFi. Once I connect through my phone is when I can no longer download apps. I haven't had time this week to call Asus but maybe next week.

I'd guess your carrier limits file size?

Probably, the error error 0x8020002e is basically for a prematurely closed connection, meaning the download was cut off...

Though OP could try Toggling the Airplane mode switch on and off, as that can help reset the driver that allows Windows to tether...

While there are two settings for metered connections...

The connection itself can be classified as metered or non-metered...

And the system settings can be set to allow downloading over metered connections or not...

While, if neither of these settings help then it's likely either the phone and/or the carrier with their own meter settings that need adjusting...

Thanks, it seems to be a metering issue as stated above. Not sure what side though, phone, carrier or tablet. I've adjust the settings on my tablet. Question is; why can I download videos, programs in desktop mode, windows up date, etc. But I can not download apps in metro?
