Purpose of the SD card on T100TA

This is really basic. Is the SD card, which I am considering adding, going to increase the RAM or the hard drive storage capacity? Or is there some other purpose for the SD card?

Any comments and/or links to explanations will be greatly appreciated.

    Thanks,
    Bill T

The SD card expansion has the same effect as plugging in a USB drive and having access to another partition.

You can store files and media on there as well as programs if they are allowed to be installed in an external drive. You cannot actually move the operating system off the internal memory.
Having a high speed SD card will be better for accessing files and programs.

We have quite a few threads and posts on this forum regarding use of the SD cards and installing programs onto them that you can look at if you want to know more.

Consider it an extra disk but it can also be used for backing up photos from your camera, moving music files from your T100 to a mp3 player etc.
It's a big advantage over the notebooks and tablets where you have to pay for a fixed amount of disk space

    Hello GTanner,
Many thanks for your helpful response. When I buy and install the SD card I will remember to read the threads. Thanks again.

Anyway, my T100TA already RIP. Now waiting replacement unit T100HA.

Hey I'm wondering if anyone with a T100HA (cherry trail) can post the model of a 64gb microsd card that works perfectly without disconnects or device errors. I've been through many pages of this thread without seeing a clear answer. My sandisk ultra 64gb is throwing fits. (or a 128gb that works would be helpful)

I bought this Samsung Evo during the Black Friday/Cyber Monday last year, plugged it in when my T100HA arrived and haven't (apart from when I applied the November update) removed it since... No problems whatsoever.
The only thing that I might have against this card are the random read/write speeds that aren't that great but that's not exactly a "fault".

I have since then re-evaluated my situation (I started out thinking "the bigger the better...") looking at 64GB Sandisk Extreme Plus or Pro instead as I feel that speed might actually be more important than size. (I'm only using 20-25GB of my 128GB that I have today anyway)

So I just got a 64gb samsung evo. Here's hoping it works and I didn't make the mistake of getting the cheaper non-plus version. So far no disconnects.
What kinds of speeds are you getting? I just ran a crystalmark and got 45 seq read/40 write single thread.

on order: 2 x Asus Transformer T100TAM-DK002B 64GB eMMC 2GB RAM - now on hold, thinking about new T100HA models with 4GB of RAM.
