    Which Windows updates are safe?

A week ago I bought my first T100TA at WalMart, only to have the automatic Windows updates kill it a few days later. It was absolutely unreviveable--I tried F9, F2, and everything else that worked for some people, but it couldn't get past "Please Wait". Fortunately WalMart allowed me to exchange it for a new one, and of course the first thing I did was to disable automatic updates, then update the BIOS to 220, and then reset the whole system.
So my question is, will there be a sticky in this forum for users to tell the rest of us which Windows updates they applied successfully, and which ones caused problems? Right now I'm afraid to apply *any* updates, and that's not a good thing.
    Thanks!

I have applied all available updates with no issues. I'm on BIOS 2.20.

The BIOS update is the key.

Mine had similar issues to yours, after updating to the 2.20 BIOS and restoring to the factory image, no problems with any updates. Though I am making regular system restore points in the event that one of the updates does screw things up.

Make some system restore points, and use new the Asus backup utility.

    The difference is the BIOS.

I have a rule of thumb. Updates are the 2nd Tuesday of the month. I don't do updates for 2 weeks after that date. Though some people update without problems Microsoft has released updates several time a year that break something on some systems depending on what other software is installed. It takes a week for Microsoft to realize, (be convinced), that an update caused a problem and another couple days to re-write or pull the update.

I get a newsletter that tells me what updates to ignore and which to apply which helps some. I support over 300 systems for a ton of different companies so I can't afford to have breakdowns due to Microsoft patches. I speak from experience that my customers who patch on that Tuesday or Wednesday are the most likely to call be the end of that week with a problem.

.NET patches are potentially the worst but not the only ones..
