I also have the same problem with my Asus T100.....when I close the lid, the screen turn off for 2 seconds & then turn back on by itself (while the lid remain closed).
After that, I did everything....e.g. checked the power option settings, did the latest Asus updates, Windows updates & even flash the latest BIOs....can not solve the problem.

Not solved
Sorry, but for me this problem is not solved.
I have disabled the "let the device to wake the system" for keyboard and touchpad and if I press a bit on the lid, the screen goes on again and stays on.
This is not good, battery drains so much...

Just to be clear....there are a couple of workarounds be thrown around...
But in the end...this is a Windows 8.1 issue...not a T100 issue.
Microsoft appears to be aware of this....there are a number of devices experiencing the very same lack of controlling the power off with the device put into standby (most notably the WIFI stays on)...all of which drains the battery power more than necessary on WIN8 mobile devices.
An update from MS is likely forthcoming soon.

Just to be clear: I paid a lot of money for this and I can expect that it works from the start without errors.

Just to be clear....EVERYONE PAID ALOT OF MONEY for what they have and have the right to the same expectations.
That said...knowledge of where a problem resides is part of understanding a solution. In this case..it's part of WIN8 - not the T100...and the sooner folks realize that...the sooner they'll understand where the solution needs to come from. Furthermore, there are no less than 8 other devices from various manufacturers that I have read about with the EXACT SAME SYMPTOMS. That's the reality of the situation.

I don't think anyone is pointing the finger squarely at Asus here, but the fact of the matter is that, AFAIK, Microsoft has not even acknowledged this issue, so I doubt it's going to be fixed in the next week or even the next month (i.e., in the return window). Until then, I would stay away from this and other Win 8.1 tablets that suffer from this issue.

Mine is doing the exact same thing. I turned off the option to wake up the device using the keyboard/mouse and my the screen still turns off while closing the lid then immediately turns back on when the screen is fully shut and remains on. I believe I have narrowed the issue down to something that is inside the touch pad that is causing the screen to turn on when they touch just right. I have tested this by placing a card between the touchpad and screen when closing it and the screen does not turn on once closed no matter how I handle it or where I press on the back of the screen. Also, it doesn't matter if the keyboard is attached to the tablet or not. If you turn the screen off using the power button then place the screen face down as if it was attached to the keyboard you can sometimes get the screen to come back on. I believe it has something to do with the magnets that are inside the keyboard that make the screen turn off and on.
