    Exclamation ** CAUTION** T100TAF model

It's come to light in these forums that Asus recently began manufacturing the T100TAF-B11 model.

It's important for potential buyers of this model to understand that...

    • It ONLY has 1GB of ram.
    • It may ONLY have one (right side) speaker.
    • It may (or may not?) have a built in GPS chip.
    • The keydock USB port is USB2.0 not 3.0

What they need is a model with 3/4GB of RAM, not one with less

LOL I had to double check the ones I bought.

They are selling these at Best Buy for $299

Asus Transformer Pad T100TAF 10.1" Intel Atom 32GB with Keyboard T100TAF-B11-GR - Best Buy

It has the older processor and less ram?

Yep that's the one I had purchased from Best Buy, price matched to $259 via Newegg. That's still a pretty great price for a functioning tablet/notebook, but I thought it had 2GB. It worked, but I noticed some lag at times so started checking system specs and came across the 1GB ram in system settings. I'm planning on trying to run some Adobe software so for my needs that wasn't gonna cut it.

Ended up returning it and found a deal on a T100TAM-C12-GR 64gb. Yeah I paid a bit more but by the time I considered the ram plus storage costs it made sense for me.

Great product, too many variations. Thanks for the replies.

I recently bought a Asus transformer book T100TAF. I tested the multitasking on the this laptop because I also wanted to know if 1 gb ram could actually run the OS just fine. As a conclusion: Windows is doing it very well on the ram side with this device. Just because it only had 1 GB doesn't mean it can't run the OS. Even with 6 apps (Google Chrome (2 tabs), a News application, Facebook (metro), Mail (metro), Hyper (metro) and a Word document) it works fine, of course you could notice some lag when switching between apps. It doesn't really bother me at all.

I also have the Asus transformer book T100T which has 2 GB ram and of course the t100t was way better in handling multitasking than the t100taf does. I shouldn't really recommend the t100taf model but its a great tablet only the 1 GB ram is something that you need to consider with. For $250 it's worth the price, at least in my opinion.

Yes. Windows 8.1 is certainly useable with 1GB of RAM, but it HEAVILY limits what you can do with it. I can do most stuff on my T100 without running in to limitations. All the built in stuff is fine, Adobe Lightroom works great, Kerbal Space Program (with NO mods) will run in the space with settings turned down just fine, other games, especially older ones (like 5+ years old, or much older) run just fine, etc. However, looking at memory utilization and even taking in to account that Windows will run leaner with 1GB installed rather than 2GB, it only leave a few hundred MB to play with. That is NOT enough for a LOT of games. Read most outside of SOME touch UI based games. Even a lot of older windows games (unless quite old) will not run in a memory space of only a few hundred MBs.

So you are going to be stuck with something that likely can only do the built in apps and some very basic games. Maybe/possibly some of the office applications too.

For something like an 8" tablet, I'd consider 1GB of RAM if the price is right...but then again I'd only use that for casual content consumption, which it would probably be fine with, and maybe a handful of very light weight casual games (IE cut the rope, where's my water, angry birds type games).

It seems Asus has updated their page for the TAF variant and now shows it with 2GB of ram. BestBuy still shows it as 1GB. I think I'll just be quiet now.

We have 3 major threads running on Games played on the T100. Some of the posts are quite suprised at how well the games run. At least, that's what I seem to recall. Not sure how that squares away with the "basic games" comment.
