The question is why did Asus omit configuring the device with wimboot to begin with? The space savings are considerable. At the end of the day with a stock config you're left with only 35 or 36GB of free space. The C volume does come pre-encrypted with bitlocker. I suppose there's some value in that if the device is lost or stolen. MS does not recommend using bitlocker with wimboot due to performance issues. Makes sense, there is slight overhead already in decompressing content as needed, adding encryption would add more overhead.

    Anything thoughts?

PS: I'll have exact free space numbers after I finish changing the configuration on mine from standard install to wimboot.
WimBoot is unnecessary, when you have 40-50GB free & a micro-SDXC slot for 64GB or larger. If you can't be happy with 128GB, a tablet is not for you.

    Installed BIOS version is 205.

Asus website lists BIOS versions as 203 & 204.

Asus Live Update has nothing in the history & has never shown Critical or Recommended Updates.

It seems that the T100TAM-C1-GM is not on the update track?

I received my TAM on Monday
Returned it Tuesday as it would not power up after charging for 8+hrs
    Replacement should arrive tomorrow.

I opted for the TAM over the TA mostly because of the aluminum shell
Office 365 vs 2013 not really an issue, mostly use excel and very rarely, word
I do have a copy of Office 2007 floating around and installed on my laptop, just need to locate the product key. If not there is freeware that does the same thing.

Really looking forward to getting the device. it will be my first tablet/2in1

Welcome Whacked... sorry to hear of your first device experience.

Once you get your replacement, charge it till the white LED next to the power button comes on solid. Then press the power button and set the device up by following the "bouncing ball".

When it asks about Windows Updates, set Windows Updates to notify you of updates.

    Run Asus Live Update.

Finally manually install any important Windows Updates. You may need to install Windows Updates several times because there will be several groups of them.

In the meantime, I'm sure you're reading all the great stuff here.

BIOS 314. All Windows updates except Bing. All Asus Live Updates. WIFI driver 5.93.99.210
I get 8-12 hrs use per charge using SLEEP mode. Warning, NEVER calibrate the touchscreen.

Yea, I planned on doing that, 'cept my first wouldn't power up. I googled the problem (found this site) and tried all the tips/tricks to get it to work. no dice. ASUS support wanted me to ship in for repairs. I bought a new device, not a refurbished. Thankfully Amazon is good with returns/ refunds.
company IT guy offered to do all the updates for me, I think he just wants to play with it

I just fired up my T100TAM-C12-GR for the first time today (purchased in early january) , loaded up live update, only to find no critical or recommended updates either.

Maybe your right and T100TAM models are not currently on the update track.

If Live Update doesn't recommend any updates, you should be at a "good safe level". If you want to get into the nuts and bolts, you can go to Asus and manually download and install drivers and such for your model (only your model) and then you'll be totally updated.

But again, if Live Update doesn't offer any and you don't want to get into the nuts and bolts you should be good.

Be careful, Support Drivers for TAM are sketchy & incomplete.
It now shows two #204 BIOS.
    BIOS 204 (T100TAN)
    2015/02/17 is likely #205

    TAN? Really??
    All 3 are out of order, i.e. 205 (says 204), 203, 204
Read the dates associated with each.

Yep just checked , i have BIOS 205 which came preinstalled.

The T100TAM drivers on the web site should be at 205 or higher. It doesnt seem right as is.

New ASUS arrived yesterday. Charged it 8+ hrs
since I do not have internet (or TV) at home I couldn't activate windows
as just playing around with it, somehow I lost the touchscreen. I could operate w/ keyboard and touchpad fine, just not the screen.
waited until I got to work, then reset windows to factory and proceeded from there.
ASUS Live update has no updates (Decided to let IT guy play with that be he is working remotely today)
    Updated windows
    installed anti-malware
    installed anti-virus
installed Chrome (I do not like IE at all)
running thru disk cleanup now. then its time to customize, get rid of crap I dont want and will never use, like XBox Live.

Pretty impressed with the unit so far.

Oh and the specs do not say (not really an issue really but some may wonder) it did not come installed with Windows 8.1 but rather Windows 8.1 with Bing
yea I know, no difference at all except Bing is set to default.

Bing is crap too, next thing to disable/remove

yea, today is a sloooooooooooow workday. Must be a payday Friday
