Anyway, I see that office depot also has a T100TAF-B12-GR which appears to be similar to T100TAF-B11-GR except it has 2gb ram. will check that out to see if it has the Broadcom gnss also.

Not considering GPS, it looks like the T100TAF-B12-GR at Office Depot at $269.99 is a great deal.

so and so deal, not great as T100TA-C1-GR which has 64gb storage can be had on ebay for less than $250. I am also a little concern that the batt life on office depot says only 8 hrs instead of the more typical 10-11 hr of the usual T100TA-C1 (? smaller battery).

it's only a so and so deal only if it has the built in gps (which i will try to confirm). otherwise is actually a bad deal.

I will swing by local office depot and take one for a test drive..

So i got a t100taf-b12-gr at office depot. it does have a broadcom gnss and worked fine with centrafuse localizer.

Battery life is a little disappointing. design capacity appears to be only 30,225 per energy report. Played 3hr movie and used 48% battery so it will barely last 6hr of movie playing on battery and that's at the dimmest screen brightness.

I did have the T100 on keyboard dock the whole time. but the movie were played from the asus ssd, not from a usb drive. Maybe i ll try playing movie without keyboard dock and see if it's any better.

My asus x205 i got from bf for $100 is still the best battery life. 3hr movie only uses 25% battery.

I think there are a number of T100 users that would be highly interested in "what you're doing" to get the T100 (looks like you've discovered a special feature (specifically built-in gnss) in some recent T100 models) that ultimately will support GPS location services that wasn't available in previous models.

Then after reading a bit about centrafuse localizer, then running self contained Microsoft Streets & Trips 2013 or Delorme Street Atlas (others?), you've functionally created a handheld 10.1" mobile GPS location/mapping platform.

    Sounds cool.

yeah, i love having gps in my tablets. almost all the tablets i own has one. i use igo which is avail in android, win, and ios ver. have igo on my android phone also. i even have a win aviation nav prog. they all need com port and a real gps. which works great with the broadcom gnss and centrafuse.

I suspect that all the t100taf models has broadcom gnss chip. at least for sure t100taf-b11-gr and t100taf-b12-gr. there's the t100taf-b1-bf that is avail the cheapest at newegg. but they charge restocking fee so i won't be testing that out anytime soon.

I am still a little disappointed with the battery life. just updated bios to 207 from 206. running movie again....

the supposedly usb 3.0 on keyboard is also disappointing. tested with my pny turbo drive which got over 100mb/s on my desktop. on the asus only got 20-30mb/s transfer....i think it's only usb2

Also i wish asus and all the manufacturers would accurately list all the sensors that come with their devices along with a listing of the exact models and the difference between each.... but i guess that is too much to ask of them? sucks....

any chance you can play a HD movie on your T100TA-c1 and tell me the battery % drain/min at minimum brightness? also is the T100ta battery 30-31Whr?

You may want to update to 313. I recall 207 "did" have some battery issues. #13 has been very stable for most* users.

    * likely self induced issues in those cases.

P.S. Since many people have shown historical interest in using the T100 for GPS usage, if you don't mind sharing your info, usage and findings, it may warrant a thread on its own under the Asus Transformer Book T100 Apps discussion.

seems like asus specifically only list 207 9/23/2014 as the latest under the t100taf page. I do see the 313 9/23/2014 under the t100ta page.

Get even more interesting.. if i look under t100tal, there is a 209 11/12/2014. wonder if i should take a stab at it... seems like the t100tal has LTE, hence the L? so i don't know if this bios will work for t100taf...

sure, i ll be glad to share any info regarding the gps and findings. It's very straightforward to get working with centrafuse localizer. then the nmea output from the virtual com port created by centrafuse can be used with any old style nav progs. the newer nav prog which directly use windows location service won't need centrafuse but i haven't any experience with them and maybe someone else can test them?

The hardest thing is really knowing exactly which model of t100 has a gnss chip!

also if the usb3 is only on the keyboard dock and unfortunately asus page only lists usb2 for t100taf i wonder if i swap for a keyboard dock that comes with t100ta, i will get a usb3 port....

Dang it... your right. All these different versions of the T100xx family is confusing but in checking ASUS just now, for the TA100TAF 32&64bit Windows OS the latest BIOS is 207. So your good to go.

You could try to run Asus Live Update (if you have that on your model) and see if there are any updates recommended.

Thanks for sort of being the guinea pig with this model and for sharing your findings.
