Free space issue [32gb model] + pagefile size

When I got the 32gb version second hand, it had a 20gb partition and about 4 gb of free space. Not even enough to install office. So I removed the recovery partition, and expanded the harddrive. This left me with about 12 gb of free space.

This morning there was only 4.5 left again, while I only installed about 3-4 gb worth of software. Still not enough to install office. WTF happened?

The 'bigger' files are, according to treesize,

    - pagefile.sys (4.5 gb)
    - hyberfill (1.5gb)
    - Windows\Winsxs (5.3gb)
    - Windows folder is 12.5 gb
    - Program Data\Microsoft\OEMOffice15 (2.6 gb)

I think because windows detected more disk space, it decided to 'blow up' some files, like the page file.
How big are these folders with other T100 users? What would be a good page file size?

I am running the StartComponentCleanup task right now in order to shrink the winsxs folder. It has saved me about 500 mb, but I still feel like there's more to gain. Thanks for the help!

I managed to install office, and ended up with more free space than before. Back at 7 now... However, there is still another 700mb recovery partition on my disk that I removed, and is now unallocated, but I just can't seem to add it to my primary partition.

Free space is an ongoing battle with me as well. I have about 6.5 free with Windows and Office fully updated. Sometimes you will get 800 mb worth of Windows/Office updates and it freaks me out. I also have Office Pro 2013 installed on my SD card. The pagefile looks interesting and I'm going to work on that. What Office are you installing? If Home and Student, I think the only way is to point to it because of the click to run installer:
[GUIDE] How to get Office installed on sdcard

Some partitions are difficult. You can try 3rd party software. I think I had to reformat the disk to get rid of one on one system I had.

Thanks for linking. I installed the package that came with the bundle (I guess home & student edition) Don't really need pro.

I'll add the 700 mb when I reinstall in the future. I am forseeing an update to windows 10 anyways.

You might try the WIM method when you reinstall. Supposed to get alot of disk space back:

You know about the Asus hardware updates, right? Run the Asus Updater or visit the site.

Asus hardware updates? You mean the new 313 bios and such? I ran asus live, and it said all was up to date.

Read about WIM method. Will try when Windows 10 goes out of beta. I guess I can use my ROM for that as well... Or does it only work on an SD card?

There seems to be a big hunk of space being taken up by the files in C:\Windows\SoftwareDistribution\Downloads. Do you think they can be deleted to gain some space with out screwing things up? I'm looking for space too.

Pull open file explorer. Then right click on C drive and select drive cleaning. then click on advanced. One of the options is to cleanup windows updates. If you select that it'll take 10-20 minutes to clean them up, but if you've never done it, it should free up 3-5GB of space.
