terribly slow compressed/exe/msi installers file reads?

    Hi All,

I'm experiencing strange issue with my T100. For some unknown reason, running any .exe or msi installer or zip/rar archive is a terrible pain. It took my computer about 3-5 minutes do display UAC dialog after doubleclicking any exe or msi installer file (!). Zip/rars are a bit faster to open but it still takes ages to open and see archive content, not mentioning drag and drop with decompression - it gets stuck for minute or so. I'm talking about opening and writing conent to eMMC drive. As there is no hdd led present I don't know if something is going on or it hanged inbetween.

It's strange because whole tablet operation seems fast or even very fast. It launches normal exe files in an eye blink. Every application is running damn fast, even compared to my AMD-based home pc. It boots under few seconds.

I'm not running any antivirus software on T100. What could be a reason for that problem? Anyone experienced that?

    Greets,
    Tomek

W8 comes with its own, Windows Defender (functionally similar to MS Security Essentials), by default and could be scanning the file each time you try to open it... It's been known to effect file transfer speeds too, as the files get scanned adds to the transfer time...

That problem is not limited to the T100, it effects all Windows systems with Defender active.

True...but something like my i5-3570 running at 4GHz can manage just a wee bit better decompression speeds with the defender overhead.

An SD card with errors can also cause major delays in i/o activity.

Very true. Corrupted index files are the quiet major performance saps.

But I can tell the performance difference between Defender on and off even on an i7-4770. However, some other AV applications can be worse.

Deffinitely. With defender off, its easily double the speed or more.
