    Windows 8.1 clean install

    Hello,
i have an Asus T100TA 32GB. I have BIOS 223. I want to install clean Windows 8.1. Now i have some questions.

    1. I have the original ISO from MSDN. I also can boot it from USB. I tested it and it boot on tablet. So i don't have to put in my Windows 8.1 Key? It is automatically detected from UEFI?

    2. Will the Office License from the Tablet work, when i install the Version from the Office Website? At the Office Website i can enter a key, this sould work?

    3. Damages the clean install the Recovery Partition? When i want to Change back is this possible? Remember: I have the 32GB Version. I heard there is a extra chip for the recovery in it. So it should work with clean install?

    4. Somebody know if ASUS is planning a new BIOS update?

P.S. Sorry for my bad english

    Thanks

    1. If you are using a "standard" Windows 8.1 Pro ISO from MSDN, it will attempt to load the key and reject it because the key stored in the UEFI is for an OEM license, which will not work on a standard 8.1 ISO. You can verify your activation status by searching for "See if Windows is Activated" and clicking on the link in the tablet search interface. I'm not sure whether your MSDN subscription provides it, but a OEM/System Builders ISO would be equivalent to the factory version.

    2. Yes, the office key should work fine, provided it has not been activated more times that is allowed by the license.

    3. No, on the 32gb, it should not be possible to override the recovery flash drive (it appears to be hardware set as read only).

    4. Past 223? I don't think anyone knows. There are still a few bugs being reported, so potentially. 223 pretty much came out of nowhere, so the only option is to just wait and see.

Hope this helps you a bit.

    Thank you for fast reply.
    3. How can i recovery with clean install? Is there something i must consider? Should i backup the recovery Partition to usb?
To the BIOS. I don't have Problems with it(223).

If you are able to boot into Windows, I would strongly advise using the Backtracker utility to create a recovery drive before attempting a clean install. I was not able to recover from the partition after wiping (although I believe it can be done somehow with a properly configured WinPE build). It requires an external HDD or flash drive.

The tool is discussed in detail on this thread:

I assume you mean that the 32gb cannot remove the recovery partition unlike the 64gb? That's true, but you still need to be able to load from the recovery partition. As far as I can tell, the partition is not bootable, and contains only compressed recovery images which require either WinPE (difficult and hard to setup) or a recovery bootloader from backtracker (easy).

The hard part isn't keeping the partition, but managing to successfully recover from it when you need to.

If you wipe the entire usable drive (except the recovery drive of course). Windows 8.1 recovery mode will not detect the partition at all (in my experience) and will require more complex means to reload Windows from it.

It is not possible to install ACReminder on clean install? This activates the recovery Partition. Is this not working?

You can install it from the ASUS drivers site, but as far as I could tell, ACReminder had no effect on recovery (except to warn you to plug in to a charger, whether or not you already were). However, I attempted this process before Backtracker was released for the t100. Even if you clean recovery and cannot activate, you should be able to use Backtracker to create a recovery drive to reload the original Windows 8.1 OEM license with the included key.
