A blank screensaver is not the same as turning the screen off. It may look like it, but the screen is still in fact "on"

    Thanks for clarifying that m0o04.
At least you can leave the T100 working away without it going into sleep and it is Blank (and password protected if req'd) but not Off.
By the way if are able you switch the screen off without the keyboard attached can you get it back on Again?

    Ok Sorted Hopefully
By default win 8 turns the display off 1 minute after the screen lock has been activated.
If you setup the sleep times as described earlier then when you leave the t100 lock the screen "winKey+L".
One minute later the screen will switch off but the T100 will still be on until the sleep timer kicks in.
I must admit looking into this has helped me as I now just lock my machine when I leave it and it uses less power.
By the way reactivate the screen by pressing any key on the pad or using the windows or volume rockers on the screen.

Thanks everybody for the responses.. I mostly use Linux day to day, and I have many android devices. I was looking for the all in one solution that could handle regular desktop apps, and be a tablet at the same time.. At this time, the windows environment is still very much lacking and was brought to prime time too quickly (I suppose they are in competition with Ubuntu for Android). Especially in the tablet world. That along with all the firmware issues that this tablet has I returned it to the store. Maybe one day in the future when these things are corrected I will consider purchasing another one and trying again..

    Thanks again everyone
    Ken

    Bug?

kc2k, the problem is that this standard procedure for different timeouts for screen and sleep doesn't work with the T100. In fact, the timeout values seems to be linked in the control panel and always turns out the same after applying. I believe that this is a 32-bit Windows 8.1 bug.

Yes That is Correct setting the sleep time out and screen time out they do seem to be locked together.
The alternate is setting the sleep time out to a high value then locking the screen "win+L" this forces the Display to switch off after 1 minute. (not going into sleep). Another win8.1 "feature"
This works as I use it now to let my T100 carry out several tasks before sleeping after a couple of hours and by locking my display (I used to use a Blank Screensaver) it switches off after 1 minute. Its as simple as That. I go away Knowing my Tablet is On and the Screen is Off.

    1. go to control panel > power options
    2. set sleep time depending on power source
    3. click advaned settings
    4. scroll down and choose when to then off the display.

also, just curious, but what are you accessing over ssh?

Just noticed - 'turn display after' - 'on battery' and 'plugged in' settings are the same as those for 'put the computer to sleep'
which means that the screen off puts laptop into sleep

Only if 'turn display after' settings be different than 'put the computer to sleep' for both 'on battery' and 'plugged in' will solve the issue

So above is NOT a solution at all

Hey I saw this thread and there's a very easy shortcut! Just use windows key and P to switch between screen and select second screen only. It works great and you don't need any shortcuts or command prompts. This makes the screen completely off but the t100 still on (just configure your power settings for your desired sleep time).
    Hope this helps someone!
