charms menu selections and other items inop - anyone else??

Twice now the charms menu will open and close, but no selections respond. Also at the same time the volume slider appears in the upper left of the screen and is unresponsive nor will go away. Also an app will start and function, until you try to close it -will not close. Reboot does not recover.

First time I did a system refresh from the maintenance menu to recover. Worked then ok for several days of intermittent usage.

Second time I tried the repair option, which came back with a message that it was unable to repair and went into applying updates which errored and then messaged it was removing the attempted updates. This update removal hung and I forced a cold restart and went into the maintenance menu again, this time selecting to start windows normally. All started ok, and the charms menu is now working normally.

    thoughts or suggestions?

    thx
    Vince

Do you know what version of the BIOS you're running?

    220. Installed it after the first time it happened.

I had what sounds like the same problem you've described about a month ago and Windows Refresh corrected it for me. I had been at BIOS 2.16 for about a week when it happened. I've since updated BIOS to 2.20 and so far no issues.

Happened again today. System would not restart or shut down. Forced a power off, upon restarting several updates were automatically installed. After all finished apparently without issue it worked ok. Strange...

Occurred again. Was in the bad state upon resume from sleep so likely occurred when going to sleep or during waking. would not shut down, forced power off. upon restarting it began installing updates. after updates completed was still in bad state. forced power off and restated ok and not in bad state...

Occurred yet again. This time I reduced the volume via the physical switch on the upper left edge, and the problem went away. Turn the volume all the way back up, problem. Reduce just a tad from 100%, no problem. Repeatable every time. Anyone else see the same behavior?

Yes...that will "unlock" the charms lockup problem reported - and is repeatable.

It is a known flaw in the BIOS at this time, and will likely be corrected in a future update.

If it is a known Bios problem, why doesn't it occur for everyone with the same bios?

Because not everyone's tablet is configured the same way...and also the certain set of screen interactions done in a certain sequence to cause the temporary experience isn't done by most users. Even a number of folks who have reported the experience cannot recreate it.
