For those craving more storage in a compact device with the T100-how about 500GB?

One of the nice things about this time of year is that we can take advantage of Black Friday, Cyber Monday, and other such deals.

This year, in addition to picking up my new 64GB T100TA unit, I managed to corral a 500GB USB 3.0 mini-hard drive that is very, very compact in size. This makes it a great accessory for the T100 - because it supports USB 3.0 - it's lightening fast and plug & play. I've used it now for about a week and it has exceeded expectations.

Here are just 2 of the 100 online places that offer this great product:

Toshiba Canvio 500GB Portable Hard Drive, USB 3.0 External Hard Drive, Shock Sensor Hard Drive, Portable External Hard Drive

    TOSHIBA (HDTC605XK3A1) Product Page -- NextWarehouse.com

What made this all the sweeter is that it was on sale for $39.00 for Black Friday (I picked up 2 at that price - 1 for a gift). Even at the regular price, it's quite reasonable.

I use my Sandisk Extreme 32GB USB 3.0 flash drive with the T100. What is funny is that when I speed test the drive, the raw speed beats both my laptop (A Dell XPS 17) and my workstation (A generic HP Slim desktop) by a LARGE margin. LOL

Note the drive listed in OP is 5400RPM so it's slower than those at 7200RPM.

Not to be a negative Ned, but that kind of defeats the portability a tad.

I also have a portable 7200 RPM 1TB unit - in reality - the operational differences with USB 3.0 are miniscule.

    Respectfully Disagree.

If you saw how just how small this unit is (compact & light weight)...having 500GB handy to "plug in" with additional content that fits in a pocket easily is ideal for a portable device.

Yup - I did see a 2TB for $139 (on sale for $109)...but that one was also heavier @ 7.2 oz. Still...a good buy as you indicated.

    The 500GB unit is 4.7 x 3.1 x 0.53. It weighs only 3.8 ounces.

Sample 500GB capacities - 142,000 digital photos, 131,000 music files, 410 HD video files.

Regardless of capacity...500GB or more in such a compact and light format is something that compliments the T100TA quite well. Being able to take reams of files with you and have nearly instant access has its advantages.

You guys mean TB, right? $100+ for 2 GB seems...not such a good deal.

I was going to say I know a good place to get 2GB for $100. Limited supply though. Paypal me the money and you get free overnight.
These options are good to have, but they do hamper the portability a bit, and I would imagine they also take a toll on the battery life.
