Can't Install Apps After Windows Update

    All,

I have only had my Transformer T100A for a few days, but I'm having a really weird problem.

Out of the box, there are no problems initially. Performance is smooth and slick with the Atom Z3740. Apps install without any problems.

But then, I apply all the Windows Updates -- a mix of rollups and security updates numbering about 20, and suddenly, the app store no longer allows me to install new applications.

I am able to browse apps in the apps store, but when I install them. I get this error mysteriously for EVERY app:

"Something happened and this app couldn't be installed. Please try again. Error code: 0x8020002e"

I thought maybe it was certain apps. It is ALL APPS no matter how graphics intensive or CPU intensive. And even worse, all previously installed apps also begin to stop working. However, the default suite of apps work fine. If reinitialize the tablet from scratch, all the problems go away.

Anyone else seen this behavior? Because if not I'm going to return the tablet. It sounds like the hardware may be defective.

    Ralph

You can try WSReset.exe This will clear the app store cache.

Another thing is to trying clearing the cache for windows updates. Stop the windows update service. Go to the SoftwareDistribution folder and rename it or delete it. Then restart the Windows Update service.

Google it, there are lots of threads on this error, for example

Fix: Unable to Install Apps from Windows 8 Store

Pretty sure it's not a hardware issue.

I tried everything on that list. The only one that worked was reinitializing the PC from scratch, but that's obviously a non-starter.

You're right, though. It doesn't appear to actually be a hardware issue.

I am using a mobile hotspot for wifi at work. It never occurred to me that this might be the issue, but it was the only thing left. So I turned off the hotspot and used the cable internet at my house instead. Apps started downloading again.

The mobile hotspot will only work for downloading apps if the security updates haven't been applied. That is still a PITA though. Did they block connections from mobile providers with the security update(s)? What could they have done? Blocked ports?

Hmm. I've now determined the "what", but not the "why."

Thank you so much, it works.. 😊
    1. Disabled windows updates
    2. Run wreset.exe
    3. Appstore back to normal

    👍👍😊
