    Windows Update Problems

Hi everyone, love the Asus T100 form factor and functionality, it is the all in one device I have been waiting for. However, I am having terrible problems with the unit crashing after any kind of Windows updates. I have now disabled all updates and hoping for the best. Anybody else having this problem? Any ideas or solutions? I updated my bios and drivers with the November update, but too paranoid to try a Windows update to see if that corrected the problem, as I have already reset this device over a dozen times!

    Thanks for any feedback!

I had an issue the first time I tried to update it. The 2nd time I found that the screen goes black while installing updates on shutdown / restart. I think I shut it down while it was still installing updates and that hosed it up beyond repair. Had to do a clean install.

Yes you should do a clean install. I had problems at first and after clean install its been running great. you don't want to run Windows un-patched as you are asking for bigger problems with malware.

Is a clean install the same as windows reset, or a different option in recovery?

It would be the Remove Everything and Reinstall Windows option. This wipes everything so be sure to back up any data you have on the device. I believe when you log in the Metro Apps will install back again, but any desktop apps you've installed will have to be reinstalled.

Hmmm... I've spent many a weekend on clean installs in the past. I was hoping that was going to be a legacy experience that I could tell my kids about one day.

Good luck! My T100 hasn't had a problem yet but I never keep auto-update on. I wait until Thursday after patch Tuesday so that other people can tell me if everything is okay.
