I used the method outlined below:

    http://www.transformerforums.com/for...te-button.html

works great for me and saves a few "clicks".

Good question. I hate it when software vendors make things "better" by removing functionality. They should at least offer an override to mimic the previous behavior. I understand that it's supposed to be automatic, but I don't trust it. I want to make sure that, when I start up my machine in a few days, it still has juice.

EDIT: BEWARE: Proceed carefully. I think it might be possible to completely FUBAR your machine if you use the wrong EVENT ID. You might define a condition whereby your tablet will ALWAYS hibernate. I am not sure how you would recover from this condition. Please wait for others with better skillz to comment on this if you're not sure about how to proceed. YOU HAVE BEEN WARNED.

Here's one possibility, with a possible drawback. If it works how it reads, you will ALWAYS hibernate when going to sleep mode. It would be more flexible to have the option to either sleep OR hibernate, but I like this suggestion. Only thing that needs to change is to point to the hibernate shortcut, or use the shutdown/hibernate command as a target. I will try it and report back.

Task scheduler on laptop lid close?

EDIT: This tip worked, except for a few changes. I needed to change the task such that:

    - it works even if I am not logged in.
    - it works while on battery
    - uses EVENT ID 506 (see warning above)

The other caveat here is that traditional sleep mode is no longer possible. Every time you go into sleep mode, the tablet wakes up and performs a full, non-battery-using hibernation. Still, we are further along here. I personally prefer it this way but others might still need a solution that brings us back to how it worked previously.

EDIT: Now that I think about it, my warning is perhaps a bit overblown. You can run "Event Viewer" and look at windows_logs>System to see how this event ID manifests. Just make sure you use the right event ID. Make sure that 506 is what shows up for you when you put your tablet on standby.

My ASUS TF101 has successful used an app called Auto Airplane Mode for quite some time - available ONLY on the Android platform for now.

I would anticipate seeing something similar for the T100/ MS WIN 8.1 some time in the near term.

Basically it does one key thing people want - when closing the lid it turns off the WIFI (the biggest power drain) and turns it back on when the lid is opened. You can do that now with a couple simple swipes...but it should happen automatically.

By the way...the issue of using a fair amount of power in "standby" is a WIN8 issue, not T100.

Numerous devices have the same issue with WIN8 - the WIFI stays on when units "in standby" or "closed". This drains the power over time. The same thing happened in earlier Android versions...eventually apps came out to address this.

I, and it appears several others, have an issue with the T100 where the device _exits_ standby when closed - it enters standby as the lid goes down, but comes out of standby on full closure. This isn't the Win8 issue with standby power-drain - the device isn't _in_ standby.

I could get an update or app to turn off WiFi in standby tomorrow, and it would make no difference - my T100 will only standby when open or undocked.

Actually it is a WIN8.1 issue, and will require a BIOS update (or new drivers) to address it on the T100. It has to do with how some of the the T100 drivers work within the WIN8.1 environment.

Numerous other WIN8.1 tablet and laptop users are reporting similar experiences.
