    Transformer Book T100TA Battery Probems

Hi All. I just started on this forum a few hours ago to look for solutions regarding to battery issues that I'm having on my 1-year ownership of the Transformer Book so go easy on me.

So I have been having this Asus Transformer Book, model T100TA for a while now and am overall pretty satisfied with it until now. I haven't been having major issues with it except for the charging issues.

How it dawned upon me was that because I'm currently away from home so, humanly as we tend to forget things, I forgot to bring home with me its OEM charger when I travelled back home last week (7/2/16).

And then what I did was because I really needed to stock up movies before I return here, I decided to charge it with a generic 2.5A iPad charger instead of it's factory-bundled 3A charger. As expected, it took quite a while, in fact double the amount of time (about 16hours) I needed to get it from 6% to 80%.

Now tho, the REAL problem starts getting on my nerves to the point it disrupts all my activity involving computer usage. I reverted to charging with it's OEM 3A charger but guess what? It took 24hrs to charge from flat dead 0% to 30% which is stupidly, horridly unacceptable. And the device would fill up really slowly (about 2%/quarter hour) before this WHILE I'm using it. But now, it decided to go the other way instead.

While I was back home, I used the generic 2.5A charger as a temporary substitute for about 8 days. 2 charges per day, with the device off, meaning with literally no power usage.

I'm thinking was that the cause of this whole battery havoc? Or is it because the power controller decided to "recognize" the generic charger as it's new OEM charger?

    Generic charger rating:
    2.5A, 250V (that's all that's written on it)

    OEM charger rating:
    Input - 100V-240V, 0.5A, 50Hz-60Hz, 30-40VA
    Output - 5V, 3A

    Welcome to the forum

I have moved your post from New Members to our T100 Battery section. You'll find a lot of information in it. Your device hasn't changed allegiance to a different charger - it isn't that intelligent, or fickle

My first question would be if you are using the correct charging cable. As you'll see from the relevant thread in this section, the cable you need cannot just be any old USB cable. It needs to be wired correctly.

PLEASE Search for existing threads before posting a new one. Thanks.

Your opinion matters. But should you disagree - please try not to be disagreeable

Hi @janner43. Thanks for the hasty reply and the BUMP. But if you have checked out the link I posted for my OEM charger which is in black colour, the default cable wire is built-in with the power block and therefore eliminates the possibility of me using a wrong cable. So I'm still wondering what's the problem since it's still not going beyond 50% today and it's been almost 24hrs at this time of posting.

Just to be clear, the T100TA charging cable and charger are not proprietary. Specifically, no connector jumpers or resistors.

In my case, I can use an "any old USB cable" to charge my T100TA or more specifically a heavy wire (20 gauge) standard USB cable plugged into the 3A Asus stock charger and it charges great from less than 20% to 100% in about 3 hours.
Amazon.com: PortaPow Specialised 6.5ft 20AWG Charge Only Micro USB Cable for Blackberry, OnePlus One, HTC One, Google Nexus, Asus Transformer, Dell Venue, Other Fast Charging Devices ...: Cell Phones & Accessories

I also use a more generic Power+ charger that works well too. http://www.amazon.com/Tablet-Ac-Adap...B+t100+charger

It's likely assured that an Apple branded USB cable or charger in any combo won't work or work well for the T100TA. But I don't believe it would hurt your T100TA. Apple is the proprietary device.

Now, since I only own a first generation model T100TA that's about 2.5 years old, I can't speak for all T100 models and Asus may have incorporated proprietary circuitry later on but AFAIK, if the voltage and current capability and capacity gets to the T100 battery, all is good unless the battery or an internal connection from the microUSB connector to the battery is faulty.

This stuff is not magic... i.e. assuming nothings broken, the right voltage 5VDC, the right current 2.5+Amps at the T100 microUSB connector and good wires and connections should get the job done.

I have checked the cable connections with both the chargers earlier and all is well, nothing is broken, but to top it off, my OEM charger isn't even running hot, which I reckon it's either not in full 3A power or the battery just won't "allow" 3A anymore. Imminent battery change possible?

What is the voltage output of the charger you identified as the "Generic Charger"?

Are you quite sure the charger you've identified as the OEM charger is in fact the Asus charger that came with your T100TA? Did you buy the T100TA new? In what country?

Your photos of both those charger are not good enough to read the info printed on the chargers.

Yes. The black OEM charger came together in the box with my T100TA.

I bought in Malaysia by the way (prejudices aside due to my country's political weatherstorm).

The generic charger has "2.5A 250V" written and there's all there is on it. I'm not even sure myself if that refers to output or input voltage, which worries me a lot. Is it visible in the photo I attached?

I'd guess that the 250V on the generic is input voltage.

Question, what is the country standard voltage out of the wall where you use your T100?

I'm gonna guess your OEM charger (or more likely the cable or connector connections) are bad.

Rick is your best bet for advice on this. I'll defer to his greater knowledge because he has had a T100 from the early days. My only knowledge comes from what I read here. For example in this thread: [GUIDE] PSA: short the data pins to charge your T100 fast with *ANY* USB cable.
    where the OP states...
First, the problem. The supplied USB charging cable is pretty short, and using a standard USB cable to charge is very slow: T100 trickle-charges, which takes forever. So, if you want to use a longer cable, or lose your charger and buy a generic one, charging time grows from 3 hours to more than 12. This has been identified as a "con" in reviews, and I could not find a solution easily on this forum.
Certainly on the Android TF devices, the charging cable was most definitely proprietary as was the charger which had a dual voltage switching ability in it. That isn't the case on the T100, but we have had reports of both 2amp and 3amp chargers being supplied depending on the model and date of purchase.

If your original charger that was supplied with your T100 isn't charging within 3 hours or so, then I'd agree with Rick that there is likely a fault in the charger or cable connections.

If you really want to test your power supply and cable, get one of these.

    http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00...ilpage_o05_s00

It'll tell what the voltage out of the power supply is (5VDC) and if it's showing any current (low to about 1.87A), your device is connected and is charging.
