T100 shuts off when on battery and running certain tasks

    Everyone,

I've looked through the Battery forum but cannot seem to find someone with a similar issue.

My computer charges/discharges normally. The battery calibration is set (more or less) and monitored with Battery Bar. I am running Windows 8.1 with the most current updates (and the most updated BIOS for my T100TA).

What I can't figure out is why my computer will randomly shut down. It only seems to happens when watching videos on YouTube (usually, 480p) or playing VirtualPinball. Neither of these tasks are particularly processor heavy and work flawlessly when plugged in to A/C. These crashes can happen at any battery percent. I should add it also does not happen when using other similar video sites such as Hulu/Netflix (whether web-based or via apps).

Any ideas? Maybe a setting got changed for the battery allowing the computer to draw too much power?

Is your T100 shutting off or going to sleep?

Are you using a desktop browser to watch youtube and play pinball. Or are you using Windows Metro apps for those things?

The T100 will go to sleep when running things in the desktop environment but when using the Metro apps it will not sleep.

The device completely shutting off (meaning you need to hold the power button for a while and wait for Windows to load up to get it to work again) indicates a power problem. I had a similar issue when my T100TA was randomly shutting off on battery while working fine on AC. It seemed to happen more often when the battery charge was below 50%. Inserting USB devices or doing something CPU-heavy seemed to trigger it more frequently. I tried various solutions, including discharging to 0% and recharging multiple times, disassembling the tablet and reconnecting the battery cable, reinstalling Windows etc. and nothing worked until I bought a new battery. I suggest you just get a new battery for your device.

That sounds exactly like my situation. Figures it would be a wonky battery when the computer is about a month out of warranty

My T100 is having a hard shut-down. All the programs I am using are desktop-based. And, as far as USB devices go, I only ever have a cordless mouse receiver in there.
