New T100HA not booting because I flattened the battery

Hey, yesterday I finally got me T100HA and it worked well for the first few hours. I got home when the battery was at about 8% so I continued to use it while charging it up. Nevertheless, it still lost juice and eventually shut itself down (Is this normal?). After charging it up for ~ 2 hours the light beside the power up button would blink orange for a few times but nothing else happened. Over the night I let it charge up. Today I get the same result except the light is now blinking white instead of orange. I tried booting it up holding both the power button and the volume up button and holding the power button for 1 min but nothing has changed.

Does my T100 seem defect? Anything I could try before writing to the retailer about the issue?

    thanks beforehand

    Welcome to the forum

I doubt you'll enjoy this reply very much, but you need the help, so here goes...

Why have you abused a brand new device in this way??!! Self inflicted damage is not covered by warranty or consumer rights legislation. Why don't you read first and act second - if you did, you would look after your equipment and it would repay you with long, reliable service.

    1) Do you not understand about caring for lithium batteries and the requirements to treat equipment properly?
    2) Have you read the battery / charging guide FAQ? (In the T100 battery section, stickied at the top)

Essentially you have drained the battery so much it will not accept a charge properly and your T100 has become confused. You'll need to try any number of things to resurrect it. Most of them are listed in the FAQ, but you can also try...
    1) A long press on the power button
    2) Powering on via power and volume +
    3) Powering on via power and volume -
    4) The trickle charge trick

You can try all the above docked and undocked...

    5)
    1. Remove the tablet from the docking station.
    2. Remove the charger from the tablet.
    3. Press and hold the power button for 45 seconds
    4. Insert the charger and inspect the charging light.
    5. Allow the tablet still separated from keyboard to charge for at least 45 minutes
    6. Press power button for 3-5 seconds to turn the tablet on

I didn't know about that. I just thought that I could use it while charging it up. I read the FAQ now.

I tried all of that except the trickle charge trick so I'm gonna try that now. Does it matter if I use the USB 3.0 or a USB 2.0 port of my pc since 3.0 charges up faster than 2.0?

Anyway, thanks for your helpful reply. I feel so stupid (and scared)

I'm sure you haven't caused a permanant problem. And to be honest with you, even if you have your retailer is likely to cover you.

The point of a trickle charge is to do it slowly, so use a USB 2 port and leave it overnight. Your device isn't broken, just confused. On a normal laptop the solution is easy. Unplug & drop the battery. Then after a minute, connect the battery up and recharge. On a tablet or 2 in 1 with a non removable battery it is harder to overcome.

If the trickle charge doesn't sort it, then your options are...
    1) Leave it for a couple of days & try the trickle charge again - the battery may flatten itself enough to completely power off.
    2) Return it to your retailer as faulty and ask for a replacement.
    3) If & only if you are not going to go down the return option, open up the device and disconnect the battery, but I wouldn't take that option. At the end of the day, these devices are sold in a retail environment and shouldn't be this fussy when it comes to ordinary folks just using them.

    You'll be fine... eventually

Alright, the trickle charge didn't work either so I'm just gonna leave it until Sunday and try the trickle charge again over the night to monday. If that doesn't do the job I'll talk to my retailer then.
    Thanks for your help, nonetheless!
