Music stops when screen is turned off

So I'm playing an album in Media Player Classic. In the power settings I have set the screen to turn off after 4 min of idleness. Not go to sleep, only turn screen off. When this happens, the current song continues for a little while but then silence... Until I touch the computer and wake up the screen, then the music automatically starts again. Why?? The screen is supposed to be turned off, nothing else! I never had this problem before on either Windows or Linux.

Does it stop after the same amount of time every time? I think you may be missing some other power settings under advanced but I can't tell which one.

Will investigate and get back. But when I googled this issue I found that Surface users have been having this issue and that it remains unresolved. But if not Transformer users I guess I shouldn't be worried.

Some Surface users have managed to get it to work but I don't remember them using Media Player Classic. The best way to see if it will or won't is to test it with apps from the Store as they work differently than ones you would install from elsewhere.

What happened to the Win 8.1 Metro apps that would run when the tablet was in the low power mode? None of them seem to work under Win10. Did MS drop support for low power tablet apps that continue to run when the screen is blank? Sorry if this needs a separate thread.

I can't answer your question, but it's fine right here.

My understanding was that on Windows tablets like the T100, sleep and "screen off" were the same thing - I'm not sure it's possible to do this unfortunately. So whilst Modern/Universal Windows apps can run when asleep, Win32 stuff won't. See Can I turn off display without putting it to sleep? .

Which ones stopped working? Groove on Windows 10 continues to play music for me when I blank the screen, while Win32 apps like MPC don't.

For those who have issue with screen off and the device go to sleep, you can try below registry hack. You can either use REGEDIT or create a reg file.

    Creating a reg file.

    1. Create a text file at desktop and copy and paste below entry and save it.
    2. Then rename the text file (.TXT) to reg file (.reg).
    3. Make sure you turn off User Access Control.
    4. Then double click the file.
    5. Windows may prompt you what program to run. Select from C:\Windows\System32\regsvr32.exe (for 32bit windows) or C:\Windows\SysWOW64\regsvr32.exe (for 64bit windows).
    6. If double click and the file is opened in Notepad then rename is not successful. Go to Control Panel and change File Option to display File Extension. Retry file rename.
    7. If registered successful then restart Windows.
    8. Now, you will have full control of Power Setting. You can turn off the Sleep mode. Turn On Screen Off timer.
    9. Your device will turn off the screen but will not sleep.

    Windows Registry Editor Version 5.00

    [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Contro l\Power]
    "CsEnabled"=dword:00000000
