Much better Google Chrome for Windows 8 Touch (not T100 specific)

    All,

In an effort to "fix" how crappy Chrome runs on my new T100 I've been using Google Chrome's Canary build. The Canary version of Chrome is their pre-beta, pre-dev, "latest build with almost nightly updates" browser. It has the most bleeding edge changes included and you're warned that it can be unstable.

However here's two reasons to try it:

    1. It works much, much better on Windows 8 than does the production Chrome browser. It's much more fluid with touch, and has several extra touch friendly controls, swipe to move forward/back, etc. It still doesn't support pinch/zoom, but when that comes it'll come here first.

    2. You can run it alongside the released version of Chrome and it keeps your two profiles separate so if it crashes/breaks from an update you can switch right over to your other Chrome browser. It makes it safe to run day to day, w/o fear of being stuck if it breaks one day - and it probably will lol. I've not had any major problems with the exception of my extensions occasionally re-registering after overnight updates.

It integrates normally onto Win8, making it default, Metro and Desktop modes, etc. It doesn't seem to have a way to Pin favorites to the Start Menu, but otherwise seems normal. Having three browsers on a limited disk machine means keeping on top of your file caches too, otherwise you'll gobble up a ton of space. CCleaner works for me to help with that.

Anyway, just my tip for Chrome users not liking the performance on their shiny new T100's.

Thanks for the tip. I had to install Firefox for uni support of moodle and I'd rather use chrome. This build seems to perform better on my t100.

i didn't find any improvement with canary.
the browser lags the same way chrome vanilla does.

i think we should just uninstall chrome right now and wait for a patch that fixes baytrail compatibility issues.

    farewell chrome (for now)

    Thanks for sharing.

I've actually been quite pleased with my Chrome browser on the T100...but I'll keep following the Chrome Canary series as it evolves and eventually becomes finalized and released mainstream.

BTW, I tried the Android version of Chrome through Bluestacks, and it didn't load a single page. :-)

If someone have Chrome Canary but still can't pinch to zoom he should open this link:
    chrome://flags/#enable-pinch
    and set it to Enabled

My understanding is that Canary is just the pre-dev, pre-beta name for the earliest Chrome build with the latest experimental features that may someday end up in the released production of Chrome. I don't expect a Canary Chrome to ever be released on its own. I think the name Canary is like the Canary in the coal mine - it's the earliest warning/test build of new features they're experimenting with - and it's a risky place to be. :-)
