    Wow! Thanks!
That explains why on a old dell latitude the usb would run but nothing on mine!
So secure boot is still disabled correct?

no. you can just use the bootup menu. saves time so you dont have to go back to the bios and change it back

    Secure Boot Disabled.

To boot from USB, need to enter the BIOS (F2) and select the USB last tab/page.

I would advise you to install Macrium Reflect and image/backup your device before attempting to install/run Linux.

you can use these guides to install Linux:

install linux mint 17 on tablet asus transformer book T100 - Linux Mint Community

Macrium Reflect is better than USB restore.
It creates an image of the state of the drive, and can be restored within minutes.

Example, I've created 3 images of my device, in case anything happens.
Image 1: Windows 8.1 with Recovery Partition (Stock)
Image 2: Cleaned Installed Windows 10 with Recovery Partition removed for extra space.
Image 3: Windows 10 and Linux Mint dual boot.

So in case if i need to send my unit to ASUS for repairs, I would recover the device in its stock state. (Windows 8.1)

Defiantly should install and backup your device.

Before tinkering with Rufus, have you tried the T100 Magic Stick? (Bootable USB with Linux and Android)
