Need help resolving slow USB3.0 speeds on Asus laptop (Windows 8/Intel 7 chipset)

I need advice on how to fix the low speed transfers on my laptop, running Win8 core with Intel 7 series chipset. And USB 3.0 ports.

Seems the Intel drivers driving the usb ports, are by Microsoft. Intel's own updated own chipset drivers past 2012 cannot be installed on win8.0 (you need win7 or win10, Intel website says). Not even shure if this is the real culprit

My BIOS is currently set to "USB legacy off, XHCI pre-boot enabled". I have also tried removing all USB device drivers and a restatrt.

USB 3.0 speed automagically did run ok for a while but don't know what caused this improvement back then. Recently Installed Elby clone cd and this reduced my USB speeds to USB 2.0. Uninstalling EDIT did not help. Reinstalling the ASUS driver/intel package did not help. All transfers start with 190+ then slips down to 33 mb/s. Laptop to external and back.

Edit: there IS a way to install the updated Intel 7 series chipset drivesr on win8.0. But I cannot make any sense of how or what to do. It's about tricking the Windows updater to accept drivers of another version of windows by changing only th eINI files?
