    They want how much!

Does that price include the Tablet part as well? That wouldn't be quite so bad, I guess...

Yes, 999 for both, no contract so you should be able to get a cheap prepaid plan and come out on top vs a Note 2 on 2 year contract.

Any phone not subsidized by the carrier is going to be REALLY expensive. Just a phone can ruin >$500 US

I saw a post over at DroidForums that buying unsubsidized and going prepaid in the US is actually CHEAPER on a 1 year contract.

I cannot find it now, but here is one from CNet comparing GS3 prepaid vs contract: Prepaid or postpaid?: The fight for your cell phone dollars (Smartphones Unlocked) | Dialed In - CNET Blogs

Well I know that buying a "sim free" ie non carrier subsidised phone is far cheaper in the UK than getting one that is subsidised by the carrier - always assuming that you have the cash to spend up front, of course. Additionally, they tend to lock you in for 24 months in the UK, so a decent dual core 4.3" or better handset would cost around 40 a month for 2 years - 960 contract price & the handset & calls/data/texts you get could easily be purchased another way for a total that is typically 25-30% less than that over the two year period. Not to mention the freedom of not being tied to a 2 year contract.

But the €999 for the Padfone still comes out as €400 for a phone & €600 for a screen, so on balance I think I'll give it a miss.

Given the amazing choice there is in the market, I think I might be leaning towards the view that says the PadFone is a product that doesn't really meet a need.

According to the press release Swipe posted above, one of the main selling points is...
"The unique two-in-one nature of ASUS PadFone™ removes the tedious need to synchronize data between smartphone and tablet."

I would have one if it was say €400 for the phone & €250 for the "screen dock", maybe even €350 - a total of €750, but at another €250 over that price I think it is too expensive.

The price seem reasonable. I saw its pic on google and I think it looks classy.

I can confirm it looks classy in 'person' too! Just received mine, a champagne gold 32GB version. Build quality is great and it is snappy and smooth.
