Question New member with Asus Flip model not seen on this site/need to replace hdd with ssd?

Hello all, I just purchased a new Asus Transformer Flip but do not find a matching model on this site so am not sure where to post. The model # on my flip is R554L but all I see here and online are T###'s. My question is what is the best way to replace the 1TB 5400rpm hdd it has with a new 500GB Samsung 850 EVO SSD. To move from hdd to ssd previously, I boot to my M$ WinPE USB with built-in ghost and clone to an external USB HDD. I have googled around and figured out how to manipulate the UEFI to boot the this USB (X: drive) but I cant ever get it to see the drive that contains the ghost program, nor the external drive that will hold the image. I have thought of using the M$ Image creation tool to do a fresh install but havent ever performed this so am unsure of driver-type issues that might need to be mitigated with drivers that I cannot find on the ASUS site. again due to this model # issue.

    Welcome to the forum

The Flip isn't a model we would give a separate section to. I've moved your thread to our Asus General section.

PLEASE Search for existing threads before posting a new one. Thanks.

Your opinion matters. But should you disagree - please try not to be disagreeable

An install from the Microsoft tool is likely the best method for transitional to an SSD. Using a HDD cloning software wont provide the best disk performance in the end whereas a clean windows install starts of fresh (and likely with some extra performance and less bloat than the way Asus installed it) You will certainly gain the some extra storage space as Asus is terrible at participating their partitions and recovery.

You need to be upgraded to Windows 10 already to make sure your device license is registered. You can find many guides on these forums and others on using the microsoft USB tool. I have used it many times with no problems. You may want to practice booting to the usb before you switch out the drives to make sure you can your drives from the BIOS and installer fine.

As for drivers, Microsoft is pretty good now with automatically installing the relevant drivers although sometimes things can go wrong. All the driver install executable that were used when you first got the Flip should be stored in a Folder on your C or D drive (might be called 'support' or 'drivers') you can make a copy of that or just find everything you need on the Asus support page for your device. Looks like this is it https://www.asus.com/ca-en/2-in-1-PC...Desk_Download/ The usual suspects to install if something isn't working is the Asus ATK package, SOC Chipset and the touchpad driver. The rest usually install on their own.

Feel free to post here and fill us in on your progress

    Cheers, GT
