Silly me! Doh!
My question should have been: what was the exact file name before you changed it? What I want to see is if you extracted the zip you downloaded.
It sounds to me as if the bootloader acknowledges the stock recovery (signature match), the recovery recognizes the correct file name (standing Andy for a second) but then cannot flash it = dead Andy.
You had to unzip the downloaded file once to find a second zip inside. That second zip is the one you have to rename.

Yep, I extracted it. The file I renamed was: WW_epad-user-10.6.1.31

Try to rename it to EP_201_1024_SDUPDATE.zip, and report the return
