Asus Memo Pad Smart (10") won't turn on

    Hello,

I am now a proud owner of an Asus MeMo Pad Smart (10") and am very impressed with it. That is, until yesterday.. I was using it when it was low on battery but on charge, and it turned itself off, so I just assumed I was using more battery than it could charge! I put it on charge overnight and the charge light turned green to show fully charged, but it still won't turn on again, nothing happens when I press the power button.

I've only had the tablet a couple of weeks, so I'm assuming I'll need to return this item to the retailer, unless anyone can suggest something to try? Also I don't suppose there is any way for me to recover the photos/videos of my baby daughter on it??

    Thanks.
    Andrew.

    Hi Andrew,

I would return the device to your retailer unless one of these works...
    1. Try a loooong press on the power button - up to 60 seconds or until the device turns on
    2. Try a "cold boot" (link in signature)

    All the best

That was a lot easier than I thought it would be! The long hold on the power button worked thanks!

It took longer to boot up again the first time, is this some kind of crash recovery?

    Thanks.
    Andrew.

Probably, but I am not 100% certain. I just know that it is a way of getting an Asus tablet to turn on, when it seems to be locked up. It probably activates some sort of circuit that cuts the battery power for a second allowing the boot up to resume normally - well that has always been my guess.

Anyway, glad it has fixed the glitch for you I'd suggest keeping all your photos on a microSD card in the tablet - that way you will never have to worry about loosing hem if the worst ever happens & your device does develop a fault.

There are also some helpful guides linked from my signature that you may find helpful.

    Cheers

I have had my ASUS MeMo 10" less than a week and I am having trouble. I would appreciate anyone out there who can help. While I was using it (fully charged) the screen went black and was non responsive. I tried shutting it down. Then delayed responses to previous commands (trying to shut down the apps) trickled in. I was about to press the power button and get the power down prompt and I selected restart. It came on but it spiraled and spiraled (graphic) but never rebooted and I could not turn it off. Not knowing what to do - I set it aside and left it. It spiraled for 3-4 hours. I was not able to shut it down. It finally shut down. Now it is non responsive but the tiny orange light does come on when it is plugged in to recharge.

    Welcome to the forum

Sounds odd - and very disappointing for you - I would charge it for a few hours, then (if you can) Factory Reset it & return it to your retailer for an exchange.

I had the same problem, but on my tablet asus 7hd it would start and then shut off right away. as I also noticed it was not taking charge.. I tried and original charge that came with it and after market one it was plugged in for hours and would not take charge . but luckily the after market one had a charge indicating light on it . and I notice when it shut off it also stopped taking charge.. so I had to keep tapping the screen to prevent it from sleeping right away. then once it it had 10 or 20 minutes of charge, into it 25% it it charged normally after that

I also notice my tablet would not boot if I held it 60 seconds i also had to give it a shake too at around the 20 - 30 second mark then it would boot afterwords ..

Hey Andrew, We have a memo 10" that would not take a charge or power up, until we figured out that it has to completely off then and only then does it charge, when we plug it in the screen comes on and we have to turn it back off, and we have to make sure the orange light comes on, if it's green or nothing we have to unplug it and plug it back in a few times and power cycle it off (as it comes on as soon as it gets plugged in) until the orange light comes on and let it charge over night. After all that it will work all day with the expected battery life, it sounds weird but at least it works, maybe try that?
