64 SDXC use with the memo pad

    Hi,

I am using a 64GB SDXC SanDisc card with the Memo pad - half of which is loaded with pdfs. However, I experience quite often crashes during file browsing on the card and opening of files. It seems that the 64GB card is a little bit too much for the Memo Pad Smart. Anyone else who has similar problems? Works a 32GB card reliably?

I see that the spec for the tablet states SDXC - but I have something in the back of my mind somewhere that says a 32gb maximum. If I am right, then that would be why the performance with 64gb is unreliable, perhaps.

32GBb gives problems for me as well. Can't be read half of the time and I have to take it out and place it back in the slot again, to make it work. Curious whats going on with that thing...

Edit: swapped it with the 32GB sd from my galaxy s3 and this one seems to work fine. Class 10 cards probably don't do well in the tabs?

My 64GB card is now working fine. I guess I messed around too much at the beginning.

In addition, there have been two firmware updates in the last two weeks.

The memo pad now runs quite smoothly.

The tablet should be able to support anything up to a 64GB SDXC. Anything under 64GB would technically be considered a SDHC. I'm glad the updates were able to get things running more smoothly for you, MPsmart. Has anyone out there tried it with anything bigger than a 64GB yet?

The reason it says 32GB is due to licensing issues - Microsoft wants a chunk of change if a manufacturer wants to specifiy your tablet can use 64GB (I think the SDXC capability) and up. That's my understanding.

Well, it's also the SD specification... SDHC is only suppose to go up to 32GB and SDXC handles anything beyond up to 2TB...

Thing is, except for the newer UHS II high speed specification (adds additional pins for higher bandwidth connection) the pinout of the cards remains the same and is thus compatible... a Class 10 card for either type card would have no pinout difference for example.

So the main thing effecting compatibility is whether the OS recognizes the drive format and capacity... and there's where MS comes in because the SDXC capacity cards use MS proprietary format, exFAT... but as long as the OS is okay with that then it should be able to use the card just fine...

After reading this post almost 2 weeks ago, I immediately went to my local tech store and got myself a micro sd 64gb SDXC card and have been using it ever since on my memopad smart without a hitch.

All's good and smooth, no problems so far with saving all my music/video files to the micro sd card and then playing it on my tablet.
