Didn't charge the battery for eight hours before first use

Hi, just found this place. Looks awesome.

Anyway, I bought one of these on Friday and opened it up immediately. First thing I did was read the tiny booklet which told me to charge for a full eight hours before first time use, but being the kid I am I had to test it out. Powered on with about a 75% charge, and I played around for about 20 minutes before I plugged it in. I continued to use it off and on, but it remained plugged in overnight, for at least eight hours.

Did I do anything that will effect the longterm health of the battery? The guidance I receive here will help me determine whether I should exchange it for a new one since I still have two weeks to do so.

Any advice would be highly appreciated.

    Welcome to the forum!

I doubt that it will have much if any effect on the long term health of the battery.

I did the same thing when I got my tablet and I am almost 2 years down the road with great battery life.

    Hi Bruin,

I'm with Frederuco on this - I doubt it will have had any affect at all. What I do recommend you do is two things...
    1. Let your battery run down to between 15-20% for the first three times you use the tablet & then fully recharge before use on each occasion. That will give your battery the best start you can give it both in terms of longevity & also in terms of the amount of time it will last when you are using it.
    2. Click on the Master Help Guide link in my signature & read the battery & charging guide thread you will find linked there - it contains a lot of wisdom & advice which will greatly assist you in looking after your battery.

All the best & welcome to the forum

Hi BRUIN08. Frederuco and Janner are correct. Not giving it the full 8 hour charge at the beginning will have NO adverse effects on the battery down the road. You will be fine .

One of the main reasons why we recommend such a long time is because we don't know how long the tablet has been sitting unsold, so the battery levels are unpredictable right out of the box. It could be full or almost dead. Because the tablet will usually need to update upon first time use, we recommend a good amount of time as to not risk the tablet dying midway through an update.

Tnx. As the manual also states you shouldn't leave it in the outlet when full I just charged it to 100%.

Interesting...my Asus was draining faster than I could use it (over the period of the day, it ran out after several hours), so I just used it plugged into the AC outlet at the house. Does this harm the battery??

Hi everyone! I had a big problem with my fonepad now. The battery life of my device drains even if it is turned off the whole night. And when my device is just in standby, the battery still drains. What should I do? Please help!

I know that I charge my phone and tablet every night.

Not sure what is causing the drain, I have never even seen the fonepad let alone used one to know what is causing drain on the battery.
