Another new user here. Purchased from Currys with Nvidia 5% discount code (on their website) and am very pleased indeed.

Have a Kindle Fire 7" (not HD) and as a comparison and I much prefer the Asus. Only just starting to play with the Asus so nothing much to report in the way of problems or irritations.

Love the fact that Asus have NOT preloaded/prefilled the tablet full of useless applications - well done Asus.

After buying an Archos tablet with an awesome display (Retina) but a really bad performance and I bought my Memopad today :-) Back in business, bceuase my Cube U30GT just "died" (a tablet without fully functional wifi is more or less like driving a car without wheels.... that sucks..)

BTW: A big hello to all of you and thanks in advance for sharing all your knowledge :-)

I got mine April 12th as a late birthday present. This is my first Android device, and so far I am loving it.

At this moment I am most interested in playing games on it. However I expect that will evolve into developing software for it.

Right now I'm running into the brick wall of needing it to be rooted in order to pair my PS3 controllers to it for gaming purposes...

    Welcome to the forum

While understanding why you want to use a controller on your new device, just one word of warning about rooting. In the old days of Android, when it was "young" , rooting was pretty commonplace as it enabled many things that are now easily possible. So just to say really, that rooting is no longer common or even really needed for a large range of normal functions on your device. The overwhelming majority of Android users no longer root, which is quite a turn around over a few years.

If you do decide to root, then also be aware that if your device develops a fault & Asus discover the root (say you aren't able to unroot, prior to any required return) then they will, in all probability, refuse any warranty repair on the grounds of user induced damage. Additionally, you significantly reduce the security of your device (malware wise).

Anyway, just wanted to welcome you here & add another perspective for you. You may find the links in my signature to be helpful to you as a newcomer to the Android OS.

    All the best

I am some what aware of the dangers involved. As I hinted I am a developer, and so I am sort of a DIY minded person. While I am aware I /could/ go out and buy a Bluetooth controller at WalMart for 90$. I would rather use my existing PS3 controllers. However I have discovered that I may be able to pair them using an OTG Host cable without needing to have rooted the tablet. I will update this post later with results of this (I need to find a OTG cable locally.).

At some point I expect that I will want Root anyway. I like poking around at the internals of things that I own.
