Access USB Flash Drive
I'm new to this forum but could share info on how I read and write to a USB flash drive. Maybe by now a lot know already, for this subject is heavy with lots suggestions over a couple of years. Let me know if I should continue.

Welcome to the forum
I'm trying to figure out if there is a question in your post? If so, could you ask it?

OK. I'll ask a question. I have gotten a USB flash drive to work on my HD 7. Is this the way most do it?
First, I rooted the tablet.
Then, I bought this OTG.
Asus MeMO Pad HD 7 POWERED (OTG) Micro-USB to USB 2.0 Adapter High Speed Data-Transfer Cable for connecting any compatible USB Accessory/Device/Drive/Flash/ and truly On-The-Go with Power Port!
Then I downloaded from Google Play these apps: USB Host Diagnostics and Stick Mount
I used Host Diagnostics to determine if USB Host mode existed. It seemed to say yes after I ran the test.
I rebooted now with a 4 GB flash drive in the USB socket of the OTG.
Then I ran Stick Mount and tried to mount the flash drive. It said it was now mounted.
I looked for the drive in File Manager. I don't remember if this app is a default app or I downloaded it.
Anyway, I found the flash drive under My Storage, Internal Storage, usbStorage, sda,
The sda folder shows the contents of the 4 GB USB Flash Drive.
I hope this helps anyone who is trying to see the USB flash drive on the HD 7 tablet.

All that is great but it didn't require rooting to be able to use it for storage. If an Android tablet supports OTG cables, (some don't), it just works. Pretty much the same way a microSD card would.

Probably right, but at time of rooting I didn't know about using tablet with USB drive.

My Hubby's Nexus 4 required rooting and stick mount to use otg. It really depends on the device, as we know all Android is not created equally. 😉

Too bad Asus and other companies say can't say "we will include USB support on our next tablet". "Thanks hackers".
