    GPS issues

    Just bought an ME173X.
    A couple of questions - I believe the tablet does have a GPS chip. Is there a way to show what it's doing ? I.e. satellite status, LDOP etc. ?

    Also, I have a Garmin GLO bluetooth GPS which works with my Nokia N810 and E71 and is better than the built-ins on those.
    I paired it with the Asus OK but it doesn't seem to work - the light doesn't indicate a working connection. Any way to get that to work, or tell the Asus about the external device ? (My other devices, there's a config screen that lets you choose the source of location data, or to enable Bluetooth devices)

    I use this tool for GPS info https://play.google.com/store/apps/d...sim.gpsstatus2

    Unfortunately I can't help with the Bluetooth issues. Hopefully someone will chime in

    I'm using;
    https://play.google.com/store/apps/d....gpstest&hl=nl

    Which serves me just fine!

    The reason the Sat Nav of your Garmin GLO works better is probably the fact that it is able to use both GPS (American) & Glonass (Russian) satellites.

    This thread on the XDA forums might interest you, well I found it interesting;

    Can't help you with the Bluetooth, though... havent (yet) got another capable device to test this on

    After posting I kept trying things. I also found the GPS Test app which shows the state of the built-in GPS. But it doesn't seem to start it; if I have a map application running, then it shows the satellites in use.

    For Bluetooth, I found https://play.google.com/store/apps/d....mobilej.btgps Bluetooth GPS Provider. Someone from ViewRanger support told me that unlike Symbian, Android will not support external GPS without running an app to enable it.
    That works, I think - but does not show up on GPS Test. It did not just work seamlessly; I think I had to enable fake locations in the Developer settings and maybe reboot the device. After an hour of pushing buttons I lost track of what exactly I did in what order.

    (The GLO works better than the GPS in my N810 because it was designed by a GPS company with the primary purpose of being a GPS, rather than an add-on extra squeezed into a tablet. Also, it has a newer more sensitive chip. I'm not sure yet how it compares to the GPS in the Asus. The problem with the N810 was it would take ages (many minutes) to get a first fix, especially in marginal conditions like in a forest when it might fail altogether.)
