    Password on power on

I have had my HD7 for a couple of days and I can't find a way to create a password to log on to the system on power on. (like a standard PC)

I can set a password on the lock screen but that means that every time it goes to sleep (frequently), bringing it back life requires the password to get out of the lock screen, which would be a real pain.

Similarly password protecting each app such as gmail would be even more awkward

Encrypt Tablet looks a bit extreme and I am not sure exactly what it does anyway.

Is there such a thing as a power on password that you have to enter when you have booted/powered on from cold which would mean that the tablet is secure if someone else gets hold of it, but only needs to be entered once, not every time it wakes up?

Most people rarely turn off their tablet, I think the expected behaviour is for it to be put to sleep most of the time and only turned off when you're leaving it aside for days or need to reboot the system. That would explain the fact there's no idle-poweroff either, you can leave it sleeping until the batteries are depleted (it will take a LONG time unless you leave plenty of apps actively scanning the wifi and whatnot)...

I don't think it would be a horrible idea, though. But I don't know of any such setting (yet).

Thanks for the reply. I am new to tablets and in the PC world I always power down or hibernate so I was looking for a similar mode of operation. I didn't realise that they took so little power when sleeping - there is nothing in the specs that say what the power consumption is in various modes. I will try setting a lock password but extending the timeout so that it doesn't go to sleep if I walk away for a minute or 2.
