ASUS MeMO Pad HD 7 does not recognize a 3G dongle

    Hi,
Has anyone succeeded in getting the MeMO Pad HD 7 to recognize any 3G dongle? I, for one, have a Huawei E220, which I've attempted to connect to the tablet, hoping to get it to work with UMTS manager for cellular connection.
I do it using USB to microUSB adapter. Judging from the instructional video found on UMTS manager download page in Android app store (seen at about 2:30), the light on the device is supposed to start blinking upon connection and UMTS manager is supposed to start connecting to the dongle hardware right away. None of that happens.
Is there anything that I'm missing? (apparently so...)

    Thanks in advance!

    Welcome to the forum

You may be completely unsuccessful in what you are attempting here Connecting a 3G dongle to android devices is at best hit & miss - and that means mostly "miss" as the drivers for the dongles just are not written for Android.

You will have greater success using a tethering option to a smartphone or by purchasing a mobile wireless router that will accept a dongle. Many have tried what you are attempting & only a handful ever get it to work. There is a linked thread from the Master Help Guide on using your tablet with no wifi available that you might find helpful.

Hey, thanks for your kind reply. You're right, it's a big miss this time, and the reason seems to be the inability of the current ASUS MeMO Pad OS version to support OTG cable (microUSB to USB adapters) connections, something to do with insufficient voltage. They say that the next update (4.2.2) should fix it.

This dilemma has been around for a while now, and Janner is correct - it's really hit or miss. In my opinion, it's not worth the trouble seeing which one will work and which will not. Just use one of those wireless hotspots. It's extra to carry around, but you'll know it works.
