i have tried different ways to connect an external drive via miniUSB port on my ASUS memopad and have come to the conclusion that it is for charging purpos only and does not work as an input port for external devices. Not worrying about it anymore, don't think it can be done.

Actually OTG works on memo pad HD 7 but only with USB OTG cable with extra power supply. I bought this on UK Amazon (German store):

    http://www.amazon.co.uk/20-USB-OTG-K...trom+Y-Adapter

and now I can use my external hard disk, usb key, mouse, keyboard,….

And you will probably need this to easier mount your disks:

Thank you for the info, I will definitely try it out.

However, my only concern that if we are out and about without any USB power source available, then this cable will not work, but then again, its better than nothing, i guess.

    Cheerio...

Just got my HD7 yesterday. Previously used an ME172 and a small adapter (not cable). This allowed me to plug in either a 32Gb flash drive or a 500Gb external drive and read the files on them. Tried the same thing on my ME173 and no luck. Just like they're not even connected. Frustrated, I tried a couple of OTG related apps on Google Play and both tell me that OTG is not supported by the device. Since I tried this with a brand new device, not polluted with apps and updates, I'm left to believe that the device really doesn't support OTG. Is this even possible? Surely somebody has an answer for such a simple problem.

OK, so I read the above posts and decide that maybe it is a power issue and that the reason the device isn't recognized is because they're not running due to a lack of power. I got out my older portable drive which has an external power supply, tried it and ....Nothing. Since this is the second most popular thread in this forum, this seems to be a problem begging an answer for a lot of people. What, if anything, will make an ME173 able to read an external drive through the USB port? Firmware update? App? Special adapter? or, should I just give up?

I have the memo pad HD 7 for 2 weeks and love it. have the sound setting crash issue but it'd not an issue.
l have tried 2 Otg cables from Wal-Mart (ppa and byteCC) and do not work. would like a solution.

Would it work if it weren't rooted? Because that APP is for rooted devices.

I'm asking because I HAVE a cable like that, and I can see the USB keys I plug in but I can't mount them and this app (https://play.google.com/store/apps/d...ntroller&hl=en) does say:

S3C USB Host driver NOT found
Root Hub present, USB Host mode is active.

Any help on how to sort that out?
