Unhappy Asus ME172V Not Turning On After Factory Reset

Okay, so, I literally just got this thing as a gift from a friend.

There have been no problems with it with her, except the speaker doesn't want to work sometimes. We'd looked on a web for that, but couldn't seem to find anything that worked for us. That's okay, though, because now I can't even think about the speaker...

Because the darn thing won't come back on.

See, since it was hers, she had all of her stuff on it, and she didn't want to give it away with all of her personal things there. So we sat there and decided to do a factory reset. We'd gone to the Settings and did the Backup and Reset or whatever it was. That was all fine and dandy, her stuff backed up, and it shut off.

Okay, cool. We waited a few minutes, and tried to turn it back on. It didn't. I mean, like, it does come on, but it's just a black screen, then when you go to turn it back off, it flashes white and goes off. We've tried the Volume Down + Power thing, but it doesn't help. It won't even be recognized on her laptop, but it does go to the black screen.

We don't understand. This thing was working like a charm before the factory reset! She's only had it a few months. Now we're both a little upset, especially her because she had just given it to me.

    What do we do?

Try plugging it in to the charger..to the wall not a computer, and try holding the power button down. If that does not work leave it to charge for 6 hours and see if it fixes.

Hmm, sounds like it may be APX mode. Try holding the POWER button for 30 seconds. If it springs to life, good to go. If not, try another 3 second power button press and see if that works.

I tried that. I had it off and plugged into the wall all night, and this morning it did the same exact thing. My friend said her brand new one did the same thing right when she got it, but after just leaving it alone, it was fine, so maybe mine's just being moody or summat... lol.

APX mode is used to restore stock ROM if the secure boot key is known (at the factory) and if your device is unlocked you can use it to flash different firmware or custom recovery using NVFlash.

When in APX mode it is just a blank screen and when turning off and on you can see the backlight come on. To get to APX mode you hold VOL UP and POWER. Exiting it can be a bit tricky, but the 30 second +3 second is the best method I have found.

Vol up and power... Same thing. Dark screen, nothing happening, even holding the buttons for 30 seconds.

    Sigh. This is ridiculous...

Oh, I'm sorry if I did! I'm not very good at all of this technological stuff.

<Sigh> Nothing still... I may not be doing it right, but I am trying...
