    Slider charging issues

I have a new Slider and I can't charge it very well.

If the slider is off then it charges slowly - at about the same rate a taking a charge from a USB port.
If the slider is on then it does not charge at all.

I have checked the transformer and the cable as well as the connection points. I have also followed the charging link on the Admin's profile. I bought a new transformer but the results are the same.

The charge is clearly reaching the unit but not when it is switched on. As I mentioned, the unit charges slowly when switched off.

    Help?

Sadly, this sounds like you have a fault that will only be resolved by Asus or your retailer then.

I would either return to your retailer for an exchange or refund, or contact Asus for their RMA procedure.

This sounds to me that you probably have a bad USB cable, or that you are using a USB extension cable that is not allowing it to register that the TF is connected. If you are using a USB extension cable, it must be a USB 3.0 cable.

If you are using the cable that came with the device and connecting directly to the ASUS wall wart and it is not showing a charge, then the cable must have a loose connection. You can send it to ASUS and they may replace it, but you will most likely have to send your tablet, cable and charger back (and ASUS usually makes the sender pay for shipping).

A 2nd option is to go buy a repalcement charger and cable from somewhere (Office Depot, Tiger Direct/CompUSA, ASUS eStore, etc.) or from the ASUS eStore you can just buy a new charger cable. They even have a 5' cable to chose from.

Seems to be a somewhat common issue with the sliders... I bought mine a week ago and it refused to charge for the first 2 hours, showing 0% and dying if i tried to unplug it. But all of a sudden it decided to work... however, my friend bought one on the same day as me and his refuses to charge or work on battery to this day... His charger works on my slider but on his, shows not charging... so he's sending it back to asus. I suggest you do the same!

That is perfectly normal. Here is why:

The ASUS Wall wart will output 15 VDC @ 1.2 Amps if it detects an Eee Pad on the end. It uses some of the extra USB 3.0 pins to do this somehow. If you plug anything else in (iPhone) the wall wart ouputs 5 VDC @ 2.0 Amps to charge.

Charging with less than 11 VDC will not show a charging indicator. Most laptops will only output 5 VDC @ 0.5 Amps on a USB port. USB 3.0 will bump up to 0.9 Amps.

    Charging rates:
ASUS Wall Wart - 35% per hour with the screen off
iPad Charger (or ASUS Wall Wart with a USB 2.0 Extension Cable) - 10% per hour with the screen off.
USB Port - 3% per hour with the screen off.

Only chargers designed to output the non-standard 12-16 VDC to charge the ASUS will show that it is charging.

Research elsewhere will tell you the same as Frederuco's explanation, maybe in a few different ways. I was almost unsuccessful in finding a usb 3.0 cable with a 40-pin connecter and a 15V usb-to-wall adapter, so I ordered a replacement set from the Asus estore.

Reading for the re-charge process has a warning that charging with the usb from a pc will be a sssllllooooooowwwww charge, and that is due to the usb 2.0.

Also, sounds like some folks may have possible defective connectors.
