owned a slider for a year - still have no idea how to make it work.

Are there any tutorials? I am not a geek. The Slider was a (nice) gift, but is totally worthless to me as I don't know the first thing about how to use it. It didn't come with any manual. Help? Right now, it powers up, but wont connect to anything, even though it is the same room with the wireless router that is powering the HP laptop I am on now. It recognizes the signal source, and says it is strong. The clock/date shows DEC 30 2008 (really, it does!) Thanks. Alan
