[Solved] Playing Back Videos taken on Canon Powershot SX30IS

Hi! Can anybody help please? I have a new Asus Transformer Prime, model TF201 which I think is the best thing since sliced bread! However, I have one problem that I cannot solve, despite downloading various apps such as MXVideo Player and Mobo Video Player to see if they helped. I have taken a few short videos with my Canon Powershot SX30IS camera and, although they play beautifully using the installed programme, I cannot get any sound at all and cannot find any settings which may have muted the speakers. (The speakers work perfectly if I play music.)

If I play the videos using Mobo Video Player, I get sound but a very poor, broken picture quality. The files are .MOV files, which again play perfectly in MX Video Player as well as the installed programme but again, no sound. Can anyone help please? If I could solve this, my Asus would be perfect! Many thanks in anticipation!

Hillers , can you provide us with a small video sample(30-60 seconds), so we can test it on our Prime's.

in the meantime try this one player "VLC-Beta" : Clicky
→ Enable "Unknown Sources" in order to install it

    Moved to Videos.

Thanks for your reply Dr MS. I have managed to solve the problem using an app called Dice Player. If I knew how I would attach a small sample of one of my videos for you but I can't work out how to do it. Sorry!

Just as an FYI - I have a Canon Powershot S95 that also produces .MOV files, and have been enjoyably using MX Player for many months to view view files (I use QuickPic for photo viewing). The video with my Camera is actually 720p/1080i HD quality.

MX Player works extremely well...but its important to note that there is a setting in the upper right screen corner for "H/W, S/W, or S/W Fast". These refer to the Decoder used for playback. Each of these selections renders a different video/audio result, depending upon the file format (in your example...MOV) that you are viewing.

In any case...you'll fine that S/W and S/W Fast works perfectly with .MOV files. You might want to try using MX Player again with one of these proper settings. The playback is outstanding - both audio and video.

    Enjoy.

Thanks so much for that info! I had tried MX Player but didn't realise about the different settings - my videos play perfectly now. It still surprises me though, that they don't play on the Prime's built in software unless I'm missing something completely obvious?! I'll give QuickPic a try as well. Many thanks, Hillers

    Hey Guys,
I've had my 101 for almost a year now, but still can find a way to play videos taken with my Sony hx5. They are 1080p mp4s. I would LOVE to be able to stick my SD card in and play.
Is other any way I can do this? If I could convert them in the tab that would be acceptable, but this is a real bummer. Ideas welcome!!!

    Thanks!!

As far as I know TF101 (Tegra 2) doesn't support 1080p videos playback (unlike Tegra 3-TF201)...720p would be playable.

From what I can tell from all the threads, the 1080p is a red herring. I wouldn't mind playing 720p, but don't have a laptop to convert. Can I do this on the T-former?? I have searched apps, but none seem to clearly say whether they will convert 1080p MP4...

As ever indebted to anyone who can help!!
    Thanks
    H
