Restoring Apps after Factory Reset
Following a factory reset I am trying to restore my apps, which I saved to a Micro SD Card using AppBackup. Thus far I have gone into the Restore List tab on AppBackup, where I can find the appdata backup files listed by date. Using the most recent I then found a full list of my apps. So far so good. The problem is almost all the apps have "App not installed" in red next to them. I cannot select them so cannot restore them. Clearly I have misunderstood the purpose of backing up to a Micro SD Card. I thought, given it listed all my apps, I could then perform a full restore from here.
Unless I have missed a step or misunderstood the process I will have to manually re-install from Google Play. I have already signed into Google Play, but that only found about 5 out of 160 apps! I also plugged my Transformer TF101 to my Windows PC and I can see the apps via Windows Explorer, but there is no apps folder on the Intermnal Storage into which I could drag the apps.
For future purposes, in case I have to go down this road again, I would be grateful if either my error could be spotted or guidance given as to the best way of backing up and restoring after a factory reset.

quite strange issue! Really interesting, but i have no idea. Hope someone will be help.

It looks to me as if when using appbackup you didn't select "apps & data" but only backed up "data only". Because of this, the appbackup utility cannot restore the data because the app it relates to is not installed.
This might help if you wipe in the future,

Many thanks for your response and very helpful guide to Factory Reset.
In terms of the Appbackup I did try to set the backup for Data & Application, but having selected all my apps the BACKUP option is greyed out! This forced me to opt for the Data Only option.
Could this explain my problem?

Hi Gareth,
Yes. That would seem to confirm what I thought. I suspect that you are trying to backup an app that is "protected". I know, for example, that MyPlayer will not allow the app itself to be backed up. I suggest selecting individual groups of apps for app & data backup. If the backup option isn't available, deselect apps until it is.
Good win for Wales over France on Saturday....

I found towards the end of the app-by-app approach for app & data backup that the backup option went into the grey state for each app. I then noticed there is a limit of 600MB on the backup which would explain my problem. Looking at the forum there is a suggestion to do the backup in two blocks then do the restore in two blocks. I will try that approach for the backup (hoping there is no further need for a restore!).
As you say great win, though not the greatest match. Last 10 mins was a nightmare for the old ticker!!
Thanks again
Gareth
