Memory map explanation for Android (KitKat) needed

I am confused by what I seem to see with ES File explorer or other, when looking at memory usage.
    I see internal/external SD/microSD.
When I look at the files I see apparent duplication between '0', 'emulated', internal, local, extSD etc and so on and on.
I seem unable to find a consistent explanation for the duplication or for the distinction between SD cards in any tablet.
To me an SD card is a physical thing I plug in, anything else should be internal memory and most of all everybody should use the same terminology.
My Galaxy Note 8 KitKat seems to have places called USB* extSD SD and they all, including the one I plugged in, have an Android folder containing a Data folder and all seem to have the same content.

Can somebody please make this clear to me.

Sounds like a reasonable question - I only wish there was a reasonable answer!

The way internal or removable storage is named is a matter of...
    1) Legacy convention from the early days of Android. Internal memory is called various names depending on the OEM responsible. (Asus, Acer, Samsung etc etc etc)
    2) The various OEMs also call their removable storage by different names
    3) Different OEMs partition internal memory differently - so some allow all memory to be used by apps, some don't

In short, we cannot answer your question cogently because there is no standard...

Hope that helps, but I doubt it does...

Thank you very much for clarifying that it cannot be clarified. Believe it or not that does help. Not much though
