[SOLVED] Amazon Kindle app - recent app update causes some difficulties

I have had a Memo Pad 7 HD (ME173X) registered with Amazon's kindle store for a while, and it appears with our family's 'real' Kindles in my amazon account as 'Colin's Android device'.

Yesterday morning I was part way through reading a book on the Memo Pad, and turned it off. Last night turned it on, opened the Kindle app, no book.. The kindle app says 'synchronising' then nothing. I went to my Amazon account on my desktop PC and the item 'Colin's Androd device' is no longer there in the 'download to' options.

I presume that this is an "amazon' oopsie, rather than my Memo Pad, but wonder if anyone else who reads Kindle books on their Memo Pad lost their access yesterday?

I'm going to re register my Memo Pad with my Amazon account and see if I can download the book(s) again, if this doesn't solve the problem will remove the Kindle app and reinstall it. But at present have no idea what hapened!

    Amazon's reply

I emailed Amazon, who tell me

There's been a recent update for Kindle for Android.

To try to resolve this issue, I request you to please uninstall and reinstall the Kindle app.

To uninstall the Kindle for Android application:

    - From your Android device home, tap the "Settings" icon.
    - Select "Applications", then "Manage applications."
    - Select "Kindle" to open the Application info menu.
    - Tap the "Uninstall" button.

But, when I go into settings, I can see no "Applications' item, but there is an Apps item, clicking on that I don't see any 'Applications info', just list of my apps.If I click on Kindle there is no 'uninstall' option.

Can someone please tell me how to 'uninstall' the kindle app, and perhaps how to install it again afterwards.

    Thanks!

Yes, I'm giving that a go.. Unfortunately I'm up on Anachist Mountain in the BC interior, and my only 'net access is a very slow wireless link to Osoyoos in the valley about 10k away.. It is snowing hard and the 'link is slow today, so it is a bit like working in a bath of treacle! ;-)

I'll post back and say if rolling the update back and then re-registering the pad works.

Amazon must have had a wobbly yesterday, my kindle account was originally at .com, and then they moved it to .ca. But yesterday when I logged into my Kindle account on amazon.ca I was told 'your account is at amazon .com'... ? So, scratching my head I logged into amazon.com to be told 'your account is at amazon .ca' ... Ghosts in the machine I guess ;-)

    Thank you!

PS How's the snow up on Mt Washington?

I did 'undo update', then 'update' again, and all seems well, registered my Memo Pad again with amazon, and it now appears in my account. The book I was reading downloaded again, and opened at the right page (!)..

    Mahalo ;-)

The most recent Kindle app requires that you are on a good Internet connection when it first runs. It then refreshes all its data in the new app because of the significant nature of the update. In certain circumstances, it might even require you to login again.

If it's any consolation, you are not alone in your "glitch" - the most recent Play Store reviews for the app are full of folks who are not happy about similar issues. Anyway, glad you got it sorted.

The advantage to me of this update is that it added Collections, a huge plus if you have a lot of books you like sorted into categories. It synched up with the collections I had made on my original Kindle reader tablet.

Kindle App udate could cause issues - like it doesn't work

I just downloaded the new Amazon Kindle app update - all books disappeared. Have to go online to even view books on the device. Wants re-registration. Seems to be lots of negative comments about the "update". I'd avoid it if possible until the get it fixed.
